Hello,

I think that I need some help.
I've just received a new Hagen and a Two Notes Torpedo vb 101...and I'm really disappointed :-(

I can't get a decent sound out of this combination. The sound sound quite thin, with a high freq "fizz" that I thought to be in the 2-3 kHz range.
If I switch the torpedo by a Palmer, the sound is quite better.

So what's wrong with my setup ? I'm sure those are very good stuffs.

My chain is simple : Les Paul Custom > Hagen > Torpedo > Apogee duet 2 > iMac (and Adam Audio A77X as nearfield monitors)

I'm asking if the Torpedo is able to give decent sounds.
Are my settings wrong ? Are my cables wrong ?

Which kind of cable should I use between Hagen and Torpedo, and between Torpedo and Duet ?
What is the best master and channel volume range for the Hagen to get a good sound saving tube's life ?

Thanks for your help.
I'd like to find a solution before having to ship them back

I'm using my Hagen with a Torpedo Live, not exactly the same but maybe it can help...

Speaker cable from the Hagen to the Torpedo, then S/PDIF to my sound card (TC Electronic Konnekt 8). Don't forget to turn off the poweramp simulation on the Torpedo. Usually with the Torpedo I set the master volume in the 11-12 range, the channel volume do the rest. I set the Torpedo input so that it flirts with the red when strumming hard, without reaching it.

This is my very first recording with the Torpedo, it was the very first try in order to see how it works, and how Reaper works too. It's very shitty, the riffs are maybe a bit too complex :D , the idea was to have a "proof of concept". There are 4 tracks with the Diezel cab sim, 2 with the SM57 (1 standard, 1 EQed on the Torpedo), 2 with a R121 with the same setup. If I remember correctly the SM57 tracks are panned 70% on the left, the R121 70% on the right. No post treatment except panning.

dont know how the VB101 operates but with the modern impulses from two notes i get really damn impressive sounds.

check the input and output signal of the VB101
choose the right mic and distance
choose the right cab

other that that i really dont know

hope you figure it out quick

Hi docben,

it looks like you are listening to the dry sound (without simulation) instead of listening to the wet sound.

The setup is :

Hagen speaker out -> torpedo amp in -> torpedo line out L or R -> Duet 1 or 2 (you can plug both output if you like.

Before taking care of the Duet, please check what you got on the headphones out of the VB-101. If the sound is good, the machine must be set up in dry/wet mode (in other word, one Line output sends the dry, the other the wet).

If the sound is not good, bypass the post FX section, check that the miking section is not bypassed and go into miking/dry wet, put 100% wet.

Starting from that, we will see what's happening here. ;)

Merci Guillaume,

I'll give it a try tonight and let you know.

If I plug into analog out L or R, how should I set Torpedo : stereo, Wet/dry or Dry/wet ?

Well at first I would set it to stereo and make sure everything is 100% wet at every stage... ;)

I've just switched on the VB-101...and...it works fine !!!!

I should have done something wrong yesterday

Now, it's ok...and the couple Hagen-Torpedo is fine

I just face another BIG problem : too much choice :D

Thanks Guillaume

I'm happy to read that everything is fine now.

The most demanding part starts now: playing good music!

EDIT: I just saw we are not in the Two Notes forum, Docben feel free to post directly in our support forum if you encounter any issue with the VB-101, and Hi to both Peter at Diezel, I love the Einstein and can't wait to try the Hagen!! ;)

guillaume_pille, i like the PI Modern, i hope to get to try youre hardware series

Hey Shadow, I don't want to spam the Diezel forum, if you need to find a place near you to try our stuff drop me a PM. ;)

:banhim:

  Please no concerns Guillaume, you are always welcome

I'm sorry for the bad title of this post...I was so disappointed !
But tonight, I've got a big smile on my face and sometimes I can't help producing eructed sounds of pleasure :-)
I miss my Herbert (that is out for retubing)...but I'm falling in love with my Hagen !
And the Vb 101 is a monster tool !!!
I'm really happy with the sounds I get :-))))

I couldn't quit my guitar tonight :-s

haha, no dont
i dont want to buy on impulse.
Ill save some cash first and try it out :D

Im only using the Modern but im thinking to upgrade to the full WOS so youlle here from me pretty soon.

But the diezel and the PI-Modern, it delivers.
The main reason for jumping towords the VB-101 would be to capture the herberts poweramp.

I can't help producing eructed sounds of pleasure :-)

That's a WAY BETTER thread title. ^^

Anyway, sorry for this first bad contact with the product, I'll have to check if something was forgotten at the factory, you shouldn't have a dry/wet configuration at first.
