So I got my paws on an SK1 Hammond, which has a decent B3 sims, and a killer new Leslie sim in it, was wanting to get some John Lord tones out of it, I know he plugs them into Marshalls to get some gain out of them, but will it damage a regular Marshall MV head?? I know line-level is too much for the input stages, how does he match 'em up to get that killer Lord tone??
I was thinking he was at least using a Superbass, but really I have no idea. I know you guys are getting some killer DP tones, I was wondering if you had any input on this. I think you and I touched on this before, but I cant remember where we ended up
I'm assuming I have to get from line-level to inst.-level to achieve this, any help would be appreciated
Thanks Ant!

Anyone else who might know would be appreciated also

What do you think about the Hammond Hk-3? I have been trying to unload one for over a month. Hard gear money nowadays.

do you have an old pedal you don't care about? if so, just use it as a "buffer". also, do you know the specs on it? I've seen many dif specs for "line level", and since you're not going to run it into an A/D converter, or whatnot, it -should- be ok... just might distort/overdrive it. of course it's easy to say when it's not my amp :)

I really dont know that much about them. I think I remember seeing a thread a little while back, that must have been yours?
It really is a bad time to sell stuff, I know a ton of locals who are about to give up. The classifieds here seem to move pretty quickly if its somthing popular. Probably not many looking here for a Hammond :aww:

Thats an idea, I did not know that would work, I have a ton of pedals here, I'll have to pick out my first victim
Maybe a Zakk MXR? That should bust some balls 'eh?
I just know it has line level outs on it, I should have it here monday. I'll find out then
Thanks man

Just mod one of the inputs to be a power amp input. Not a big deal to do that.

I've been playing organs thru amps for as long as I can remember, and have never had any problems. Not even sure what outputs use. The Jon Lord rhythm guitar-organ is one of the greatest sounds.

Well, I have a Marshall (100/100) monoblock poweramp I could try, The impression I get from looking at his vids is he's actually using the pre section to get gain. I may be wrong in my thinking (I usually am)
Thanks George

Are you using guitar amps or dedicated keyboard amps, or power amps?
Thanks!

I've never looked very close to see what he was using....could have been pa heads maybe? I think you would be ok using anything really.

It is an awesome sound for sure!

Check out Dawk's site. http://www.dawksound.com/ If you look under Clients and Bon Jovi you'll see the setup he did for David Bryan which is setup like Jon Lord's rig. It was a 1959 model Super Lead David Bryan played thru. Jon Lord used Marshall Majors as far as I know. Dawk did work for Jon Lord too when he worked with Ritchie in Deep Purple and Rainbow. Dawk has info on his forum too.

Killer idea! I love Jon Lord's tone. I've always been interested in how he got his sound, but all I know is that he ran his organ "through a Marshall stack".

Thanks to Jerry P FJA for that info!

I saw a local band once that was part of a 'Mesa/Boogie' night, being run by a local music shop that is the main Mesa/Boogie dealer in Western Australia. The keyboardist was running a Mesa/Boogie Roadster straight into his Leslie rotating speaker cabinet I believe. I'm not sure how though, or impedance it was run at though. But it did sound good. He got a great Jon Lord organy sound. I think I have some videos somewhere. If I find them I'll upload them and post them here for ya.

Found the video! Well one of them- the keyboardist is using more of a clean synthy keyboard sound than a dirty one in this song.
Anyway, it's amplified by the Roadster into his Leslie speaker cabinet. The band is playing some folky 'mandolin' song. The other songs were more rock/loud blues stuff, where he used the Hammond organ into the Roadster into the Leslie.

I'll try to find any other clips that I have and upload them, where he used a dirty sound with the Leslie.

SCORE!!!! Thanks Jerry
It appears he just plugged straight in, no mention is made of altering anything to make it work. Interesting he used a 1960B cab, I guess thats in addition to his Leslie setup. You'd think the Hammond would CRUSH celestion's, but maybe not
The SK1 has a new digital Leslie, I doubt it sounds the same, but they really crow about how similar it is

Thanks man, very interesting..
So it appears my thoughts on a full-range keyboard being too much for the input stages of a normal guitar amp may be unfounded.
If the input stages of a Roadster can handle that broad range of frequency response, my Marshalls should be ok

Now I'm wondering......

If the planet earth is going to be able to withstand the Hammond into my Fortin Cali ++, slaved into a 100/100 Marshall power amp for a W/D/W setup with 6 4X12 cabs, and my EAW mains:lol:
I'm very excited   I have visions of Hiroshima after the big one

Thanks everyone, I will proceed lightly at first, and then into full on gain heaven and see what happens. I'm gonna email Mike and just see if he is aware of any unforseen tidbits in this application before I unleash the Hammond into modded Marshalls
I will report back my results or you will hear about it on the world news :D :D
