I own this amp, along with a Bassman and Marshall. I always laugh at how many noobs say that the Roadster is stiff, dark, and not a great lead amp.

This video is an awesome showing of how the Roadster can sound with some proper volume behind it. The preamp tubes break up so nicely. Such a versatile amp, I still don't get how it is put down the way it is online. Too many people buy high gain amps and put the gain too high, while keeping the volume too low -- then have the audacity to say it sounds fizzy!

I really love my roadster! It is such a great amp, and I never get any fizzyness from it. One of the best amps i own!

Strats do sound good through recto's because of the lows the amp has but because I'm mainly a Gibson player, I can't dial out the mud and get the sparkle/spank without it getting too thin. Actually I would say bolt on neck guitars in general sound better through recto's than GIbsons.

Amen brother. I had an inkling one time to sell mine, but then I came to my senses. I love my Bassman for its fat cleans, and I love my Marshall even though it needs to be cranked. Yet, when I gig it is so nice to have such a versatile amp that can get me close to my Marshall and Bassman, while still having a channel available for Recto mayhem.

I just posted this because I read a lot of smack about the Roadster, from people who say they've played it and experienced it -- I never get the negativity I read. I find the amp a pleasure to play and easy to dial in (if you understand how Boogies work and read the manual).

With my SG or my LP, on the Roadster I just turn up the treble, while bringing down the gain considerably. It really helps clarify your sound with the humbuckers. You are right in your observation -- as I've noticed exactly the same thing with humbuckers and Rectos. I think Strats work especially well with the Roadster, better than Teles at least.

Wrong. When you played a Roadster, did you actually take the time to understand it? This is another comment that confuses me. I see so many people dissing the Roadster's sound online. You stated that this sounds like channels 1 or 2 -- the video states that it is channel 3, vintage mode.

Seriously, this is exactly what I'm talking about. The Roadster has only sounded dark to me if I didn't turn the amp up.

There is no boost. The author writes that he is using just: guitar-->amp-->cab. There is reverb from the amp as well. I'm going to guess at this guy's volume level, he is probably at 100 watts, bold.

Why the laughing smiley? I am in no way trying to claim that you aren't entitled to your opinion. I am just finding it paradoxical that you would state that channels 3 and 4 of the Roadster are dark, all the while deducing that the sound in the video must be coming from channels 1 or 2 with a boost pedal. From your experiences with the Roadster, you figured that the video's sound had to be channel 1 or 2 -- I get that. All I'm stating is that this notion that the Roadster's gain channels can only be dark sounding is just not accurate. To each their own, I am just commenting on the misperceptions of the amp. I don't know if people don't turn it up enough or are setting the eq wrong, but to say it is dark is refutable by empirical fact.

I don't doubt though that you disliked the amp and its gain structure. At the end of the day, you got to like what you've got. Its got to inspire you.

The mid-boost side of the Suhr Koko Boost was MADE for a Recto, and sounds fantastic with Strats, Explorers & Charvels alike, at least, in my experience, anyway!

What confuses most people with Rectos, and took me a while to get used to as well, is the interactive nature of the tone controls, which can be a tad counter-intuitive coming from a more traditional, Marshall-esque rig.

Yeah, I agree with you 100%. People up the gain way too much on these amps. On the higher gain channels of the Recto, the gain is really the last knob I tweak.
