80 years...hard to believe Gillan is 80 now. I became a big Deep Purple fan as a kid after being given Machine Head and then Born Again came out and it was a shock but I was stoked to find out Gillan was on vocals. The Perfect Strangers album to this day is one of my all-time favorite albums and I don't know how many copies of that one I've bought over the years.

Here's to Ian on his 80th!

Killer vocalist - was a gentleman when I got to meet him (entire band was cool & laid back)
Love Perfect Strangers

i had this biker neighbor when i was a little kid who had a cover band that would practice in the shed that lined my property, he made me a cassette of the songs they played, it was deep purple, dio, foghat, ted nugent, all sorts of heavy 70s rock. i remember this was the first song on the tape, i havent heard it in probably 35 years. later on i definitely wore out machine head and highway star. dudes kind of an overlooked legend. the story of him and iommi getting trashed and them forgetting in the morning they decided he was the singer is classic

I just realized the In Rock album cover, takes care of the Mt. Rushmore thread.

Love his voice, all through the entire Deep Purple catalog. Superb as our Lord on Jesus Christ Superstar! 👑

If Janis Joplin and Ian Gillan had a child in time, it's name would be Rob Halford
