Hi guys I'm currently playing a Gibson SG Classic with p90s and it just doesn't cut it to play metal and basically any higher gain stuff. I play mostly in my bedroom through a Zoom G7.1ut into headphones or using a MG15 as a speaker cab from the zoom unit as a preamp and then into the line in. The SG sounds great with anything up to a Zeppelin type of song, but don't dream of pulling off a Zakk Wylde tone. I even tried using a Diezel Einstein and there was no way to play even early Van Halen stuff.

Hence I wanted to get a second axe (and a micro tube amp) to play hard rock/metal. I'm biased toward imported guitars (for price purposes) and I'm handling a budget of up to usd 1300. I did tons of research and I narrowed it to this:

-EVH Wolfgang Special
-PRS Torero SE
-Charvel San Dimas 2h

Which one of these do you recommend or which others should I keep in mind???

With regards to the amps:

-Krank Rev Jr 20w
-Egnater Tweaker

I appreciate any/all suggestions!

THANKS!!

I just scored a used SG carved top for that budget, and it is the best axe I ever played- so effortless, so full of tone and life. Also look out for Diablos, they are similar and can be found used in that range from time to time....also there's a forum member stratotone here that has (had?) a SG faded for <500

But I like the choices on your list too....I too have been eyeballing the San Dimas and the Wolfgangs. The newer Charvels are a bit cheaper, made in Japan. The leftover stock San Dimas made in USA can be found inexpensively, but they're usually the crazy colors I do not want.

No clear advice here, just brainstorming....

of the ones on your list - the charvel and the EVH are the two i would choose from.

from there - i used to own an EVH wolfie - one of the best sounding guitars i have ever owned. it sounded better than an '07 Vai Jem i owned at the same time. with that being said it reminds me alot of a les paul in upper fret access and the pickup switch selector. i eventually sold it for this reason and this reason only.

tonally - it slayed.

the charvels i have played (san dimas wise) i never fell in love with. i just dont feel what everyone else is talking about with them. but this was when they first came out. i do own a korean 1988 charvel - one of my favorite guitars to play.
