Has anybody mounted a laptop into a guitar rack?

I've seen this done, but most methods I've Googled don't look that secure. How can it be done?

i would think the industry strength or whatever velcro would hold extremely well,

usually used to hold tools up against the wall, i use it to put stuff in place on the side walls of racks when packing up or sometimes attaching power supplies underneath pedalboards, a small strip holds extremely well

That looks killer! I bet it's heavy as hell though! I was wanting something like a sliding 1U drawer to mount the laptop on.

I underhand Velcro to have a rating system of some sort. Got a link or know what rating industrial strength would be? I need some strong Velcro for other purposes too.

The problem with the sliding shelves (typically) is the depth. Most of them won't extend out of the rack far enough to support the laptop and still provide enough clearance to the front of the rack to allow the screen to be opened at an angle suitable for viewing. Zachman's approach works well, assuming that you have plenty of "U" space available.

I tried something similar but had the issues noted above. If I pulled the shelf all of the way out and then had the laptop hanging off the front of the shelf, I could get the screen to open more than 90 degrees which let me view it from above. I couldn't secure it to the shelf, however, because I had to push it back in order to close the tray and put on the front of the rack. I also wasn't happy with how far the laptop had to hang off of the front of the shelf when I tried to use it that way. It sure looked like an accident waiting to happen. Naturally, the size of your laptop would make a difference (mine's BIG :D )

I eventually just mounted the power supply inside the rack so I wouldn't have to haul it separately and I put the laptop on top of the rack when I need it...

there's this which isn't exactly velcro i guess but does the job

otherwise the extra strength/industrial grade velcro stuff i use is:

works very well, should be able to find that or something similar in most hardware stores

Dual lock, in my experience, has been far superior to velcro in just about every way.

You could do a terminal and hardmount the laptop hidden inside, but they are $$$

The problem with those units, aside from the cost, is the length. They are generally built for computer racks which are deeper than standard equipment racks. Be sure to check the specs...

No, but I once mounted a KLM Airlines stewardess in the bathroom of a 747 on the way to Amsterdam.

I'll have a stewardess with an Amstrerdam chaser, thank you...

Rock on, Brother

Awesome   I did the same, but then I married her! (true story)

When I used to bring my MacBook along to gigs, I'd just set it on top of my amp case. Not the best setup (or the safest) but it worked.

This looks real cool, but I can't find them for a good price. There are some shorter versions though, typically in 15", which would easily fit in a guitar rack. This could be used with a laptop or with a rackmounted Mac Mini (Sonnet makes a rack for them), or rack PC if that's someone else's situation. I'll keep hunting because this solution seems like the most secure.
