Has anyone here replaced speakers in a Peavey 5150/6505 combo? The stock speakers a meh to my ears, so I used to run it through and Egnater Armageddon 4x12 with 2 T75's and 2 K100's. Sounded like a vicious modded Marshall. I'm thinking of getting another combo. What speakers have you put in the combo amp? I wish I hadn't traded my 5150 combo for a Peavey Triple X head.

Not a direct answer, but my buddy really liked his EVH 5153 into my detuned 2x12 with EVM 12S Pro-Lines. Obviously the cab will affect things, but maybe they'd sound good in your combo too? If you look around you can sometimes find 'em for cheap in various PA cabs, we're talking $50-$150. Just gotta make sure they're in good condition. If you're lucky you won't have to ship it.

I had a 6505+112 combo (not sure how similar it is to OP) awhile back, pretty killer amp but yeah, the stock speaker was not really cutting it, seemed a little thin for what I was trying to do with it (sludge-punk kinda thing). I took that sucker out and replaced with an Eminence Swamp Thang. Whole different ballgame, like going from regular chicken broth to Campbell's Thick & Chunky and almost a little louder to my ears if I remember correctly. Sold it to finance a head but I miss the how portable it was while still bringing some heavy tones.

When I had my combo I remember looking up a thread I think on the Gear Page and a guy said he put 65 cream backs in his and it sounded fantastic!

if you get another combo put a 75/100 in it....or a 75/30.....I just operated on my ultra plus combo and those sheffields were horrible. Of course all the nuts were loose so that might have had something to do with it. I have played cabs with those speakers that did not sound THAT bad....

I used to have an old 5150 60 watt combo 2x12.
I didn’t care for the shetfields and I had a set of celestion G12t hot 100s I put in it.
They sounded fantastic and could take anything the amp had to give them. Lots of low end, sweet highs.
I wished I’d kept the amp, but it suffered from tube chatter and it was annoying as hell.

I had the 6505+ combo and dropped a EMI Legend V12 in it...more headroom and power and better definition.

I think Glenn Fricker has a video demoing a Mojotone BV30 in a 6505+ combo now that I think of it, that seemed to turn out pretty well. Not sure how similar the 6505 and 6505+ are though, not a big 5150 person.

I put some of the EVH Celestions in one my combo's and it sounds really good.
