Has anyone rewired their cabs with better cabling?

I think this has been very insightful... and if I ever do get a pair of marshal cabs in the future, then I will have my chance to rewire them. Thanks for the help everyone. Now does anyone have a recommendation for what good speaker cable to buy to make my cables for my head to cabinet, or power amp to cabinet? I use Mogami 2524 for normal gear cable, and guitar cable... but what is the "go to" brand for speaker cable? I would appreciate the help.

The people that say changing your speaker wire will make a difference are the same ones that say the IEC Power cord going into your amp needs to be upgraded...

Yup  Yet another way to achieve a subtle improvement.

The debate over whether or not its placebo effect will go on for eternity. Truly.

I hear a brighter tone with silver wire and silver cables. Remember, a cable can only reveal what is there. A cable cannot ADD anything so In my mind a brighter sound from the silver cable/wire means more of the signal is getting through the cable. Be it secondary to skin effect ,the conductivity of silver, or unicorn magic. ;)

heres a quote about silver from George Cardas of Cardas Audio he actually prefers the sound of copper to silver but makes interesting points about silver.

George Cardas: ... Silver is the best DC conductor, but, embodiment for embodiment, it is more inductive than copper. This trait, combined with its inherently lower loss, accounts for the bright, fatiguing quality of most of the silver cables (silver has approximately 5% more skin effect than copper). ... Silver is also a relatively hard metal and difficult to anneal. Hard coppers (linear crystal, etc.) also failed because of their tendency to ring mechanically. Electrically, silver is like a speaker box with no damping material. It will be more efficient, but it will have a definite "sound".

A shit cable can take away, as for your silver comment, it could be taking away mids and low end - making it appear brighter.

If there's any improvements to be had, it's not like we're talking 1000's of feet of cable. 10ft from the amp to the speaker, at most...

An ant fart on a windy day.

To be honest with you, the wire in the Marshall cab is fine too. What isn't fine, is that crappy PCB / jack plate they use and the plastic handles. Put in new jacks, remove the PCB, wire them from the jack plate to the speakers as you like (even reuse the wire...), and swap the plastic handles for metal ones, and you'll be better off.

True , In my experience I actually noticed more lows and low mids as well.

sure these things should be considered subtle at best.

This^ , Although while getting rid of that crappy stereo pcb jack setup, I went with heavier lamp cord for the wiring while I was in there. The stock stuff is painfully small. I have had 2 of those stereo jack plates fail on me, so I get rid of them right away. I kept the stock handles though :D My go-to brand for spkr cable is home depot or lowes

Hey whatever works, its all good when you can make something cheaper instead of throwing your money away... which I think I might be doing too much of myself.
