yep, they're really good tubes, but for whatever reason they're particular about what amps they'll be good in.

for instance they're great in a VH4 or Herbert, but not so great in a couple Marshalls i tried.

guess they're good in Splawns, think Scott is shipping with them now?

they have more low end than a SED, and over all voicing of the mids is lower than a SED.

I ordered a set today for my JVM. I will post a review when I get them in.

This is interesting news. I might like these better than the SEDs...

Interesting. I would be trying them out in my Cameron modded Marshalls...which are in the same vein as Splawn's amps.

FWIW, I really like the Winged C's, but I always like to hear other tubes. ;)

i tried them in that Cameron Ocean, and they were a no go. in the Golub amp they were fairly decent, but still not as good as SED's.

i'm defenantly a SED guy for the most part.

if you're bored and wanna try something deferent in a Cameron, i'd say to try the Gold Lion KT-77's. just talk to Doug and make sure he gets you a set that will bias up right, i got screwed on my set from a deferent vedor and got a really cold set that wouldn't bias up in most amps.

Shredder has it in his QR and I have the Ruby BSTR's in mine (I think they're the same tubes). They're really nice tubes!

I was considering the KT77 (JJ), but I have heard mixed reviews. I think I need to get shreder75 to come over with his quad of KT77's and let me tinker for a few minutes

What were you thinking of putting them in?

JJ's are way deferent than the Gold lions, not even in the same ballpark.

Cameron Aldrich. I love the Winged C's, but I feel like tinkering for my own ears sake.  I am sure that nothing will really be able to top the Winged C.

Winged C's are SED's?
I didn't like the BSTR's in the XTC (too much low-end). They were ok in the SL. But they sound HUGE in the QR.

do the BSTR's have a green octal base like the Tung-sol?

No. They look like EL34's that are retaining water...

if the BSTR's are big bottle, than they aren't the same as Tung-sol.

the Tung-sol are regular EL-34 size with a green octal base, i'm sure there could be some with a deferent octal base color, but the big bottle has to be deferent?

It's possible... I read somewhere that they're the same tube. Not sure if it's true or not. They do sound really good in the QR. When they go, I'm gonna get the TS EL34B's for that amp.

The Ruby el-34bstr tubes are shuguang tubes. The tung-sol el34b tubes are different. Tung-sol tubes are made in the same Russian plant as all the other New sensor corporation. Mullard re-issue, Svetlana's {Not winged C's], and a few more. Years back the American company New Sensor took their plans to court and BEAT Svetlana, out of the rights to their OWN NAME. So Svetlana became winged C SED. SED stands for Svetlana Electrical devices Corporation. The C is a Russian cyrillic S......The winged C's are made in the St. Petersburg russian plant and there IS NO EQUAL IN QUALITY.....PERIOD! But other brands are decent these days. Scott Splawn caught alot of grief over the JJ KT-77's last year and half the year before as JJ had a quality problem BIG TIME. Scott HAD to have a new tube, solid solution for this aggrivation. Enter Tung-sol el-34b's ....Russian made at the Reflecktor plant, Dependable as hell, very musical and the problems were solved. I talked to Scott about this very subject on the phone yesterday. Funny thing about the Tung-sol tubes, Pre and power. Alot of guys all say the same thing Capulin Overdrive say's.. They sound great in some amps and not so great in others. But the price is very reasonable. I am gonna try them in something soon. But I am gonna try the pre's/ 12ax-7's 1st. Then the power tube set. Right now what I am hearing from alot of amp techs is JJ has gotten the KT-77's straightened up, but now the el-34's that JJ is sending out SUCK, problematic just like the kt-77's last year and before.  WINGED C'S FTW!!!!!!

but yea, i think New Sensor has thier shit together now, because they're cranking out some nice tubes. EH 6CA7, Tung-sol EL-34B, etc.

oh! you'll lose some of the NWOBHM crunch, but the EH 6CA7's were really nice in that Ocean! i left them in there for quite awhile, and of coarse they'll do the EVH thing more proper like than the SED's.

Yeah I have EH6CA7's in my SL. I had a relatively fresh set laying around and no EL34's. I put them in the Marshall and that thing freaking roared! LOL! :D

Damn Right! But I am like Dave, I wanna try and see what the market bears. I do know that the choices have slimmed down a touch more than it has picked up. I know that sounds odd, but it is true. Example, Groove TITS, err TUBES used to have the winged C's relabeled with their name on them, so if a guy was sold out of THE WINGED C'S you could go and get the GT labeled C's and it was the same darn thing. NOT NOW. Gt has cut back their offerings. So atleast the width of availability is not the same.

I agree with this statement 100 percent.
