Has anyone used a JJ ecc83MG (medium gain) in a Peavey 5150?

Interested in hearing from actual users of the JJ ecc83MG in high gain amps.

I know it lowers the gain. What are the sound characteristics of this tube?

Is is tight in the bass like the regular JJ ecc83? What are the mids/treble like in comparison?

I haven’t, but you could try a 5751 in V1.

You could also try a 12AT7 in the phase inverter. The AT7 has a night transconductance and will thrive the power tubes a bit more than a AX7.
 
My JJ ecc83MG arrived today and had a quick play.

Initial impression....

Its only slightly lower in gain than the 83s, and higher gain than the 803s.

Somehow the MG sounds and feels closer to the 83s but without being dark. It is tight in the bass, has more going in the midrange like the 803s. More treble than the 83s but not as much as the 803s and it's more balanced in the top end rather than bright.

The JJ ecc83MG is what I wanted the 83s to sound like and might just be my unexpected favourite when a warm sounding tube is required.

I'm using the MG in V2 with a tungsol in V1 and these 2 tubes complement each other very well. Tungsol brings the grind and bite while the MG brings the warm mids.
 
I'll have to try a 5751, but never liked more than 1 ecc803s in the Peavey 5150
 
What could I expect in sound difference between my current chinese 9th generation 12ax7 and a 5751 tube in the PI?
 
I wouldn’t use a 5751 in the PI. I’d only try it in V1. The 12AT7 is better for the PI for what you are asking.

The C9 will be louder and have more gain than the 5751 in the PI
