...without the nasally 'mid-honk.' By low-end, I'm talking about that mean 'chugga-chugga' sound while palm muting.

I've tried well broken-in Vintage 30s, G12-65s, G12H-30 Blackbacks from '79, and G12H-30 70th Anniversaries (also broken-in).

Are Lynchbacks my answer?

I dont know... nothing sounds like those vintage 30's they push loud and clean and sound so great cranked up.

An EQ will add or subtract bass, mid & treble to any speaker.

V30's aren't the best choice for upper mid or brite amps.

Bill Landry now uses Lynchbacks in his cabs.

Pickup a 6 band or 10 band EQ before dropping $500 bucks on speakers.

i think you need to try the special variant V30 made for the Marshall Mode Four 280 cabs: Vintage 30 MF. it's the same speaker that Avatar sold a few years back as Hellatone 60L.

it's a V30 but with some change, IIRC a different voice coil. to my ears it has way less of that regular V30 honk and much tighter lows. (it's NOT the special Mesa version V30. that's a different speaker.)

google Hellatone 60L and see what info or clips you can find. it seems to me like what you're looking for.

The Lynchback's low end sounds much rounder than the V30 in that clip.

-there are many V-30 variants all voiced differently-(there's lots of info on the different models)-most consider the original "MARSHALL-VINTAGE"-(black and gold's)-& the MESA propriety V-30's to be the best of the bunch-(I have both,.. neither has that infamous "ice-pick" mid's associated with V-30's-

-the V-30/GREENBACK mix-(V-30's on the bottom GREENBACK's on top)-is common now-(aka FRIEDMAN cabs)-I have seen that some are taking it a step further and running 3-GREENBACKS & 1-V-30,. I'm gonna give this a shot,..

-V-30's do have a great low end,.. I have been considering a CELESTION HOT 100-(they came in the MODE 4 cabs)-as a V-30 replacement in the GREENBACK/V-30 mix..

This. I have an MF280 V30 cab, and right next to my Rivera cab when I run both I can tell immediately the reduced mid honk, with sweet highs and even more tight low end then regular V30s.

K100s have tons of low end and mix well with other speakers.

That's what I thought as well, did a double take when I saw the V30's later in the video. I was half watching it and thought the V30's were the first ones up.

I would say YES. I have Lynchbacks in one cab, and V30s in another (and Greenbacks in yet another cab). My take on the Lynchbacks is they are like a perfect marriage between a V30 and a Greenback. The low end is very similar in my experience. Love them in a 2x12.

THIS!

and this again ... I have 2 g85s (which are the original speakers celestion turned into the k100) and the are fantastic pear with every thing. The bottom end is big and warm with what I would say are slightly scooped mids (only slightly) and good punchy highs. I love them, have tried V30's (which I hate), greenbacks and creambacks (65) and none of them touch the 85's for what I want

Definitely 2nd the K100/85's recommendations but is the V-Type supposed to be a V30 without the mid honk?

I am pretty sure k85s are the same as k100s. I have k85s in my vtm 412 and k100s in my mako 412 (mixed with scumback m75s).

really awesome speakers.

Another vote for K-100s. I have a bunch of different cabs and after the Camerons with H30s,my warhead cab with K100s is my fave. And the K-100 mixes well with V30s IMO.

I have g12h30s, and I use a cusack screamer v2, and even without the screamer, I get mean chuggah chuggah with the g12h30 70th anniv's. With the cusack screamer v2 I can get BRUTAL chuggah chuggah type stuff.

I have broken in English V30s in my Cameron 4X12 and they sound fine with me. My Chinese V30s mixed with 70th Anny H30s in my Splawn 4X12 and it sounds killer!!! All depends on the amp for V30s. Not all amps sound good through V30s.

Hellatone 60L speakers are the ticket. 85, 100 are good speakers, but if you like Vintage 30 to e, without the midrange honk, that is the ticket. The WGS sound much different, good speaker, just not the same tone.
