Having issues with miking a 8" speaker

I am baffled. All I have atm is a SM57 for mics, I have no issue miking a 12" speaker though. I can't quite figure out where the sweet spot is.

Has anyone else had a hard time miking 8" speaker? It's a Weber Alnico speaker and I am trying to get a base tone out of the amp prior to modding it.

Thoughts on mike placement?

It's just going to be trial and error. The smaller the speaker cone, the smaller the sweet spot for the mike. Once you find it, note the angle of the mic, and put a piece of tape on the grill cloth (if it's behind grill cloth, that is) to find easily the next time. That's what we used to do for recording back in the days of yore. LOL
