A couple years ago I was playing bass in a band that I really wasn't a huge fan of their music. I had a hartke lh500 and a hartke 410 and loved the tone as I'm a huge fan of the old school thrash clanky bass tones.

Anyway I soured on playing music I wasn't into especially when the guitarist kept booking shows that were non paying during times that I have go work. So I quit the band and sold my bass rig. Fast forward to now a drummer I jammed with a while back asked if I would play bass for his doom band so I wanted to give it another go.

So I borrowed a bass rig from a buddy of mine who is in a punk band. A Peavey 410 and a Peavey Centurian(I think that's what it's called). It sounds surprisingly good but I need to give it back. So I have a 4x10 being delivered Tuesday but I still need to find another bass head.

Can you guys recommend something that won't break the bank? I have a hartke 410 400 watts at 8ohms. I would like something to keep up with a band that can do a gritty death metal/grind tone, take pedals well for the doom fuzzy stuff and also do the punchy thrash tones. Like to keep it around 500 or lower on the used market.

My suggestion is get a decent power amp and use a Tech 21 Bass DI as your preamp. Whenever I play bass, as long as I have the Tech 21, I don't really care what amp I use as long as it is powerful enough. Then if you decide to record you can use the Sansamp straight in and you will have the same tone.

Spend a few more bux for a used(if possible) darkglass alpha/omega.
Just Google the specs. I have the 800 watt version, but the 500 watt will work just fine for ya.
Best bass amp I've ever had. Built in compression and a foot switchable drive channel.
A huge monster in a tiny box.

I'm playing a Darkglass Microtubes and lovin' it. I really wanna grab that Origin Effects Bass Rig though for a more Ampeg flavor.
