Headshell design ?

This is going to be my my new Duesentrieb - a 50 Watter with 2.5 channels, loop. Clean channel off a Shiva (stumbled over the circuitry lately, tried it, liked it, will keep it ) and my "standard hotrod gain channel" - with an additional "boost" function (for leads).

The only thing I'm unsure of is how to design the headshell. Its a bit wider than an average Plexi-cutout, chassis size is like a SLO, so what to do?

Something like a Plexi-thing a la Splawn?

Size of the headshell would be the typical 4x12" then

or more like a modern metal grille or Acryl-front like an Einstein or my own "Snake" stuff - it would be sized like a Marshall 1966A cab then . . .

What would you do?

I'd go with the SLO / Bogner / Diezel style. Get matching front and back metal grills (like Soldano) and you'll be done. Simple, classy and probably cheaper.

I never liked the look of the plexi front panel on a wider chassis like the Splawn pictured. The width of the side panels seems out of proportion to the top to me, plus it's been done to death.

What if you took the oldschool look and the new modern look and combined the two? SLO type chasis but with basket weave or something on the front?

I do see what Randy is talking about, it does look not as kept in a Plexi shell with the added length.

I wonder if my JVM headshell would work, your welcome to it if you want to try it.

HiWatt is interesting, SLO would work as well with Diezel accents.

I like the more modern look, myself. I think the Marshall style headshells have been done to death, time for something new

I would make it as small and light as possible.

For the rest, I like the Bogner beige/black look, especially with their rounded corners and no corner protectors.

I also would go for this style. There's so much Marshall style headshells out there. Soldano design looks simple but really looks good. Keep us posted Olaf.

Really, I like Randy's idea since it's kinda vintage-y sort of.. An All Metal box with the logo punched out like the front grille? i dunno.
Does it NEED something new??
