Was plugged into my JCM800 and heard a decently loud "pop" sound come through the speakers. Now the amp is very quiet, but makes an appropriate sound. Input tube go?
It could be a preamp tube, yes, but it could also be something else. Swap out the preamp tubes and see where that gets you. You could also have a toasted screen grid resistor.
Seems that it was the input tube. Unfortunate that I just had the amp retubed. I just had my Rat pedal max gain max volume going into the amp not long before it blew, any chance this is connected? Or likely the tube was a lemon?
It's likely the tube was bad. The RAT's gain is reputed to be 50dB max, as opposed to a Tubescreamer's 30dB. It's definitely higher, but I dunno if it's high enough to be an outright tube killer. It's more likely that the input tube wasn't the best and the RAT's signal level antagonized it into failing.
