Any bands out there do the southern/classic rock thing like B.S. but harder sounding, less twang in the vocals?

Listening to clips of their newest release for the first time.

The closest thing I can relate to is quite a departure with Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. If you haven't heard em', I'd probably start with III and work your way around from there.

There's always The Black Crowes. I'll look through my catalog and let you know.

Scorpion Child and Rival Sons sound pretty good. Music gets a little too derivative/repetitive though. Singer from Scorpion Child reminds me a lot of Dave from Fastway. Singer from Rival Sons is pretty bad ass, wish the guitar player would lay off the fuzz/octave. I like fuzz, but just for flavor now and then, not as a base tone. Rival Sons have some good mellow tunes. Maylene and the SOD are too much of a hardcore band (vocals) for my liking. Kind of like when Every Time I Die rocks out as opposed to being straight hardcore but I dig ETID's singer a lot more.

Great suggestions, keep 'em coming. Save me from going back to my Blackfoot tapes. Need some new blood. Molly Hatchet can't stay around for ever...

Rival Sons sound a lot like The Black Keys...some songs very lo fi

Texas Hippie Coalition
Nashville Pussy

I've Listened to Pussy since Let Them Eat Pussy came out. That is a fun live band. Their records have been a little hit or miss over the years. THC gets a little closer to metal. Definitely looking for bands that are still a rock 'n' roll band.

Definitely looking for good rock singing with a little grit as opposed to anything hardcore or metal. Lot's of the guitar players I see are fine with coming up with endless pentatonic, low string riffs but aren't all that tasty or interesting for leads or breaks/bridges etc. I often find these bands will create a great riff or groove but fail to create a great song. You instantly hear the love for Zeppelin in their sound but you'll never get the depth or melodic sensibility of Zeppelin. Same with the Stoner bands that take 10% of Sabbath's sound and make it 100% of theirs.

Whiskey Myers
Jonathan Tyler and Northern Lights
Jompson Brothers
Cadillac Three
Wiser Time
Rufus Huff

You're probably aware of them but Zakk Wylde Pride and Glory is a great great record.
Best thing he's done in my humble opinion! He should've stuck with it...
The second album Book of shadows is also a great record, albeit a late night chill record!

Some great stuff in here. I'm still digging into some to see if they'll enter the rotation. Thanks.

Black Stone Cherry?

They remind me a lot of Shinedown in a way that everything they do has to have a certain radio friendly feel to it. Maybe because a local radio station plays fucking Shinedown every 5 minutes, then Theory Of a Deadman, BLack Stone, then Hailstorm.

Cry of Love is a good band too - although long gone. Their second album is a great one.....

Corrosion of Conformity (America's Volume Dealer)

Both bands are old news…but good news. Love me some COC from Blind to Wiseblood. The first COL album is killer. Actually I thought the singer in Scorpion Child at times copped a Kelly Holland vibe in his voice.

Agree about Black Stone Cherry….cheesy, rock radio tripe

And I don't like the downtuned guitars. But they put on a good live show, saw them as support for Alterbridge.
