Another thing I dont get is why do they use those flat top barrel knobs now. They should be rounded at the top. These look bad to me.

The 2009/2010 MIJ So-Cals were in the $800-900 range IIRC and came with a hardshell SKB case.
But not with that back-cutaway/heel fix, but WITH a quartersawn maple neck (and a good ol' 22 frets).

Now take a look at the new ESP E-II lineup that has offerings priced over $3k.
 
Old thread, but those look wrong to me without neck plates on them...
 
This has my interest. I can only assume the QC from Japan HAS to be better than MIM, and a Gotoh 1996. Price isn't ridiculous either... win-win, as far as I'm concerned. Better craftsmanship, better trem!
