I have an empty 4×12 cab in California, I am just north of New York in Toronto… I have had empty cabinets shipped to me before for $100-150... The best quote they got for shipping it to me is $278 USD which is just absolutely outrageous, There is no way that a music store and the East Coast is paying that much money to have cabinets shipped from the West Coast… The math just does not work… anyone have a better idea?
The best price they could get was through UPS…
Thanks for any advice you guys have…

Hmm..I've shipped a 425B cab and a 1987 Jubilee 2551A cab from the Midwest(Wisconsin) to the east coast, UPS, for about 100. Couple years ago now, but both cabs were loaded. If that helps. Slow boat...took about 5 days.

I've had the best luck with FedEx. After having dealt with UPS claims, I'll no longer use them.

I just shipped 4x12 unloaded cab from wis to new hampshire(i believe). No box...reinforced corners with cardboard plating guarding front grill and back...then just shrink wrapped the hell out of it. Cost me less than $100 to ship and insure. Arrived safe and sound.

Having shipping to Canada before, I'm guessing it's the fact that it's a international shipment that's causing your price to be so high.

Thanks, Who did you use?

I vaguely recall years ago when I used to sell 4x12 cabinets, UPS and FedEx had a limit on not only only the height, width, and depth of the box, but there was also a total circumference or something like that if you exceeded it, the price would go through the roof.

A 4x12 cabinet by itself would meet it, but if you put an inch of packing all around it would exceed it.

I recently sold an Avatar 2x12 with Scumbacks for $400 shipped thinking that shipping would be around $100. Shipping via UPS ended up being $170. Fedex quoted me $240. I used a box that a 4x12 was shipped to me in and cut it down to the proper height for a 2x12. OS 2x12's are basically the same size as 4x12's, just shorter, so the box wasn't excessively large. I honored the deal, but really ended up taking the pipe on that one.

I've heard of folks using Greyhound for cheap.

I've done this. I shipped a roll cage and a front bumper this way. It was pretty reasonable, but it was a while ago.
