Seems that my company has some solid work booked up for the summer out of town for myself so should everything stay cool an end of summer Friedman treat may have to come into fruition

I've been lurking the forum for a while listening to every clip I can and most over and over again. I really dig the Marshall esque tone Mr. F has loaded into the Marsha and naked... Really dig! I like each JmR clip so much I'm having a lot of trouble trying to decide which might be better for me, and I'm only looking to drop this kinda coin once lol. I also realize Dave does spot on mod work but after watching a plethora of clips I see myself gravitating towards the ground up builds. Also considered doing something like a 100w chupa modded to the teets but I believe there isn't much of a legitimate comparison between clips of the two from lugo's shoot out. The tone quality spreads in spades to my ears, and that's only through my laptop speakers, can only imagine standing in front of the cab pushin air!

So the real debate, the Marsha sounds amazing, I like hearing it in the AIC mix, I liked the deftones clip posted here, and I loved the few evh clips I've heard through this sub forum. I'm swayed by the naked because I am a huge fan of APC, and really like that "smooth dark" overtone of the amps feel. I also really liked the Hendrix JmR was playing in that clip, thought it sounded awesome! But, he seems like he could make anything sounds great haha.

I'm a big tool fan and love Jones' sounds out of his modded Marshall, but I don't want to work on some exact replica of his amp and go about starting to try and use everything he uses. I do on the other hand enjoy playing tool and APC, as well as Hendrix and just recently also getting into some evh.

I would like the amp I choose to compliment my early 2 channel recto, and i'm not particularly too interested in the cleans.

Any help from you guys would, as always, be great! Any info that may be pertinent to the final outcome that I'm missing I will gladly answer once notified

Thats a tough choice.

I am a bit biased since I went with a Marsha. My other alternative was the Dirty Shirley not the Naked. So between those 2 I would chose the Marsha, but I might eventually get the DS too in the future...
But I am guessing you like heavier sounds than I do, so the Naked might suit you too....

The positive thing is no matter which you chose you probably are going to end up loving your amp! So its not that bad....

Thanks Nico!

The DS is a bad ass looking and sounding amp haha

You're right in the fact I'd be happy either way haha, the idea of having an amp hand made to tailor your every want and need is more than enough to keep the shit eater on at all times :D

I've been listening to nothing but aic and apc as of late just loving it   Unfamiliar with the shiva it's sometimes hard to tell in jc's new mix which is more marsha but I'm loving what I'm hearing there! The apc is always fukngruvn and judith has been blaring a lot

I'm still having a tough time but I have a lot more research to do and some time to do it, I'm going for the long term, not too much of a gear flipper, and looking to give more function to my current rig. I've also been looking into to the port city os 212 for while now after hearing a load of great clips, if that were the cab choice I would load it with w/e Dave recommended. Got a lot of decisions to make here   Are you still mulling over options on the marsha you snatched?

i have both amps and you cannot go wrong either way. there are many good clips of the marsha online but i haven't heard any that capture the naked properly. it is a really special amp. when i got mine i was really surprised at how much better it sounded in person. the naked really shines with dropped tunings. if you don't do much with dropped tunings you might want to go with the marsha. i really like how the marsha cuts through in a band mix. they are both awesome though. i will never sell my friedman gear.

i have one of these cabs too...very nice. with the marsha you can't go wrong with scumback m75's...and with the naked maybe scumback an h55/h75 mix

I keep hearing/reading this all over the interweb, I associate dropped tunings almost completely with d and the menacing c haha, I do keep a guitar in e a step down at all times and it gets played as much as my d/c guitars. So are the songs I play in e standard or a half/whole step down going to sound like shite

None the less the naked is really drawing my attention, and clips that capture it's full potential are a must

there's no way to make this amp sound like shit. in standard tuning it sounds great but in drop D or drop C it will give you a boner

having owned the Naked and the Marsha at the same time. I think the marsha can get just as heavy as the Naked
especially with the Depth switch on the Marsha. I would say the Naked was smoother and had a different mid structure
but the Marsha has a singing quality to it with some teeth that agreed with me and the mid frquency was my zone.
I've had mine 1.5 now and still really like it.
The Naked is no slouch though and big as hell sounding just a smoother agreesive vibe.
I also love the way the Marsha can get KILLER slightly broken EL34 cleans at low to moderate volume which I ain't come across in any amp I've owned or played.
The Naked may be a bit more gainy though but with the Marsha if I dig in it gets grunty and gainy plenty for what syle of music naturally fits me.
The Marsha is also sweet with a Strat with fat switch and CS45 through greenbacks, badass Chili Peppers to even SRV type phrasing considering its a Marshall type amp.
Keeper.

I would really like to know more about this "black eye" mod supposedly in the works

The mystery around it is definitely appealing, wouldn't want to get fractal'd ;)

I can't imagine anything getting much heavier than my Marsha on the HBE setting with the SAT and MODERN switches engaged...it's brutal. Paired with a CAA ported 2x12 (Scumback M75s) it really sounds amazing...and stays extremely tight with Drop D (1/2 step down) tuning.

That said, I can't imagine that either would be a bad choice.

Tvd, I am really happy with the options in my Marsha. Except the full clean channel I got them all: Loop, Sat, Fat, C45, Line out, simple clean: kind of like a Vox clean channel (tweaked for slightly earlier breakup) I didn't go with the Full clean because I am not after Blackface Fender type cleans, I like them with a little break up.

Thing is it took a lot of time to decide upon the amp. I was also contemplating the: Cameron CCV, Fortin Bones, Suhr PT-100, Komet Concorde (Will probably buy this one eventually)

...

I find it hilarious that I rant about how I'm not interested in being jones' fan boy but I'm ready and willing to be howerdels

Only joking ofcourse haha, but I do find myself loving the naked clips I hear because most of them sound BA. However, I am leaning towards the Marsha because of it's tonal contrast compared to the recto, knowing it can get dark in it's own flavor is helping as well :D The idea of having the tone in the Marsha clips I'm watching over and over in house, would be fkin nuts, a little more so than the naked:S

Just order the marsha. Then tell yourself that you're finished buying amps. Wait 6 months....then order a Naked. It's your only option.

I have a client that will have all 3 amps I make in a week or 2. He wanted them all.

I could certainly handle the Marsha, naked, and ds all in one room like in the premier guitar vid haha

Really gettin pumped on the thought of stacking the "Friedman" a top the recto and letting the shit hit the fan

Supersonic's vh clips in the clips thread are tippin scales over here, the difference from the original is obviously there but the sound coming through that thing is exactly what I love to hear

Although I haven't tried the others I prefer the Marsha from the clips I've heard. You realy don't need the clean channel as the tones you can get rolling the guitar volume down are just Fantastic, warm saturated and perfectly clear. You can get it just about dead clean, even with gobs of gain dialed up. Can't go wrong with the Marsha, if that's the tone you like go for it.
