Hi folks,

I just purchased a Friedman JJ Jr and I'm trying to hookup an MXR Carbon Copy delay in the loop. I'm using new George L cables. When I hook up the pedal in the amp's effect loop, you start to hear some ground noise and there is no sound coming out of the amp from the guitar. As soon as I disconnect the pedal from the effects loop, the ground noise goes away and you can hear the guitar perfectly.

Any advise that you can give me as to what this could be will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

hi

the JJ jr. has a serial fx-loop, correct?
some basic debugging:
- try shorting the fx send and return jacks with a instrument cable to verify the fx-loop works and the cables are good.
- connect the delay in front of the amp to verfiy it's functioning correclty
- check your wiring, make sure to not mix-up send and return jacks (send goes to delay-in, return to delay out)

maybe this helps!

Run a known good cable from the send to the return, bypassing the pedal. If it behaves the same way then the loop
Is jacked

Since it's new this shouldn't be a problem...but.....

With the first vintage Jubilee I ever had, the same symptoms....I used deoxit to spray on a cable end and cleaned the jacks by putting the end in/out. Did this to both send/return jacks. Worked fine after. Read about this needing to be done on both the vintage Jubilees and 2205/10s FX loop jacks as they were prone to issues that were solved by cleaning the jacks. Maybe the JJ jr collected dirt/dust enough to cause a problem?

Just going down the list here but do you have the cables reversed possibly? I know that is a common sense thing but sometimes we all hook up stuff so quick that we forget basic stuff.

The good news is Dave is really quick on getting to stuff like this so if you do have an issue, should get help fast.

I need to get other cables to see if the ones I'm using are bad. Aside from that, I tried all the suggestions you shared and nothing.

Bought some new cables today and problem solved. Thanks guys for the support.
