Help me tube gurus, I have some preamp tubes and I have no idea what I have, they are long plates, one large single halo getter and pointed insulating spacers, not the best but here are some pictures.

yes 12ax7, I know the tubes are pretty old, I got them from a friend that took them out of his amp in the 90s, I just can't figure out what brand they are

Telefunken Smooth Plate or EI Yugoslavian. Hard to tell apart. The EI go micro pretty quick in comparison. It can last a long time but not as long as the Tele

I just did a search and I believe your correct the tubes do look to be Telefunken Smooth Plate or EI Yugoslavian

If they are Telefunken they will have a diamond on the bottom in between the pins. Do they have the diamond? I like the EI as a Phase Inverter. Some amps they can sound good in V1 but in the PI slot they are nice. They open things up. They have a certain mid character to them. The EI are usually higher gain that the Tele so better for guitar. The Tele's are better suited for audio. I have a pair in my audio preamp in the phono stage.

Nope, no diamond on the bottom, so that must mean they are EI's I'll have to try them out

Pop one in to V1 or the PI slot. These are cool in the PI. They all test high for micromhos. Problem is they are or go microphonic in V1. The earlier ones are better and last longer in V1. I think you have pre war Yugos. The better ones.

Put in V1. If it squeals its not pre war. Nah. No way to really tell. The fact that yours have no markings may mean they are older but no way to confirm. Try them out.

Any imprint on the bottom of the glass? Usually Teleflunken will have a diamond imprint. Whether Tele, EI, or several other rebrands, they are all the same design. Watch it though, they can be squealers on most high output amps.

Sorry for joining late, I have the same tube with a 2A1 code. That should finally confirm that these tubes are EI's.
