Hi guys! I hope everyone had an excellent holiday season and new year.

I've been on a search these past few months for another amp. I have a DSL and a Ceriatone already. I'm interested in something a bit different. An amp that will work well with single coils and humbuckers. Something with a different flavor than what I already have, but still able to rock when I need it. 40 watts or less. I'd like to stay within the $700 range or less.

How about the PRS MT15? That would be a big variation to the tones you currently have, and under 700 I believe...

A little over 40w but I’d go with the 5150 III 50w 6L6. It’s definitely in a different camp than you’re EL34 amps.

Have one of the guys on here build you a custom mini..20watt range voiced to your liking

How would the 5153 or PRS differ from what I already have? They're basically high gain heads, right?

They’re voiced more modern

And are they much different from each other? I see they're both 6l6 powered.

I also see that there are 2 different versions of the EVH LBX?

Or in the opposite direction as you mentioned single coils. Fender made a Deluxe Reverb reissue head for a few years. 22w, beautiful when played with single coils and when volume turned past 4 will give you a raunchy breakup very different from your Marshall styles. Used should be well under 700. Or perhaps something by Orange for a more fuzzy style overdrive?

The two lunchboxes are clean/overdrive, or overdrive/boosted distortion. All evh options will sound much more mid forward than the MT15, which to me has a scooped thing going on.

So, would you say the evh ones are closer to Marshall tones?

I wouldn't. They have their own aggression. Mid-heavy, yes, but kind of it's own flavor. I got an EVH 50 yesterday. It's mean as hell!

Didn’t you have a 5153 50 watt a few years back ?

The mids are voiced a little lower than Marshall’s but still cut great.

Personally, I know guys like them but I just couldn't jive with the 2 6L6 5153s I owned. Tried to like them but found them too fake or pedal sounding. Just my experience. You have the Marshall thing covered, so a variation like the 6L6 PRS or EVH would be a good changeup. There are a couple guys on here that have stopped playing their other amps, including the EVH because they like the PRS that much. You can always return either one, the EVH or PRS if you don't like it. I've read one description of the PRS say that it's like the best boosted Recto they've played, but no boost needed.

I did. But honestly, I can't remember how different it was to what I have now.
