Help me choose a reverb

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a reverb in order to beef up my sound when playing home, to give it a bit of width. So we're talking about a light and discrete reverb, not 100% mix cathedral stuff. It would be an almost always on reverb.

My setup is a Diezel Hagen with an ElCap in the serial loop. I play mostly hard rock and metal. The idea is that this reverb should handle high gain stuff, in the loop of the amp (the parallel one would be best), without messing with fast riffing. I did a try with my ElCap as a reverb and it was OK, a dedicated unit should be better.

I spent the week-end reading reviews and watching videos but I just couldn't decide myself :dunno they are usually ambient oriented.

So after my research :

Strymon Flint :
+ Simple reverb & tremolo
+ Some reviews seem to be from rockers
+ I like the look
+ Analog dry path for the reverb...
- ...but not for the tremolo
- The tremolo is no good in a parallel loop
- Several reviews talk about a change in tone

Strymon BlueSky :
+ Analog dry path
+ Lots of settings
+ Can be run parallel (100% wet)
+ Included favorite switch
- Maybe a bit overkill ?

Neunaber Stereo Wet :
+ Seems to be the reference
+ Easy to use
+ USB port = evolutive pedal
- Seems ambient oriented
- Can't be run in a parallel loop (maximum mix != 100% wet)
- Only runs at instrument level, might not suit my loop

TC Hall of Fame :
+ The cheapest
+ Lots of different reverbs
+ Analog dry path
+ Kill dry for parallel use
- The weakest, sound quality wise
- That red color blinds me

You'll say just try them... I would but except the TC they are very hard to find in Eastern Europe, and very expensive.

So after this list it seems that the BlueSky is the best solution, but maybe I'm missing something. Do some of you have a similar way to use the reverb ?

Thanks !

I like the verb on my rocktron intellifex. programable and gets the just done well

My Digitech RV-7 has done the job great for me for a couple years now, so I'd recommend that one as well- however, if you can afford the Strymon stuff, I have a hard time imagining you'd be disappointed in either based on the clips I've heard. The Blue Sky clips in particular sound ridiculously good. Cheers,

BigRig

I have the Strymon Bluesky and Flint. For light reverb: Bluesky, absolutely no question whatsoever.

Really does sound good. Awesome with high gain...and that's just with whatever presets that are in it now. I haven't tried to edit or create my own yet. I'm getting ready to use mine in my rig after this weekend. For $100 or so, you can't go wrong.

This is true. Whats really helpful is the high freq damping parameter. You can really make the decay's as warm or as pointed as you would like for any situation.
The Intellifex sounds a lot better than any amp reverb or pedal I've ever used. Best part is if you use it with an expression pedal you can alter the parameters in real time. ANY parameter!
I usually just set the controller to pull the reverb level down or input (or whatever effect) off when the pedal is down. This way you don't really need to switch to another patch to take any effect away and you can blend back in at will. Just roll forward on the pedal for as much of the effect as you need.

Seems like most guys around here ONLY like to use pedals.
Pedals are usually somewhat limiting and cost WAY more than some older bargain rack stuff.

Rack stuff:
Furman RV-1 or RV-2 has Spring reverb ($120-$200). Soldano Space Box spring reverb (expensive). Peavey Vale Verb spring reverb and tremolo ($125-$599 lol).

Pedals: Demeter reverb has springs.
Haven't found any digital pedal I like yet, but I have not tried Strymon. They look like they may have done it right from the clips I hear.

It's by no means top-drawer, but my RV-7 is seriously an awesome unit. Cheap (comparatively), has some choice sounds to it. Reza recommended me this a couple years ago - I bought it - and I'm super happy with it. Great in loops, out front, whatever.

I know there's a ton of really tempting, expensive, uber-booteek stuff out there - all of which is probably really nice and exceptional at what they do. I just wanted a 'verb that gave me some space and feel and the HardWire does this perfectly.

The Stereo WET is the best reverb I've ever owned. I really liked the Strymon bluesky but it was overkill for my needs. I love the shimmer option on the WET but mostly just the lush verb is what i use.

Thanks for the feedback.

I went the programmable way, Axe FX, Xpression, Timeline, Timefactor, it seems I just can't bond with anything with a screen and menus. A shame being from IT :D

I'll doublecheck the RV7, I heard so much bad stories about Digitech stuff, it seems their Hardwire series is better.

On one rig I have a hardwire RV-7 running in the loop and another a hermida reverb. Hermida is starting back up partnering with lovepedal, so I am not sure how available they are.

Of your list the WEt and Blue sky would be my top 2 choices.
