I have a Suhr Antique S style guitar. It has a SSV in the bridge. It's decent but was looking to hotrod this guitar a bit but I still want some clearity to the tone especialy on the low end.

I was thinking an SSH+ or an Aldrich but I am open to ideas. What do you think?

A good "SHRED" pickup is one that stays tight,is very articulate, has a good output
and percussive.
I vote for a dimarzio steve's special which does all the above.

Bill Lawrence USA L-500XL (i prefer it to the wilde version, which is muddier)
EMG-81 or 85
Seymour Duncan Distortion
Tom Anderson H3

I've never played an SSH+, but I wasn't a big fan of the Aldrich in my Suhr Modern. It had clarity and a nice feel, but it lacked balls and punch. Honestly, lots can fit this bill, but it really is going to depend on what tone you're looking for.

- Duncan Distortion
- EMG 81
- MCP Garuda
- Lundgren M6 - a bit more guitar dependent because it actually has a healthy does of lows, so I wouldn't put it in anything dark or boomy, but in the right axe it has awesome clarity.

I have tried both the Suhr Aldrich and the Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge of some of my guitars, they are both similar in tone, the Aldrich is smoother and tamed, the Dimarzio a bit more wild and unruly. Both handle hi gain very well, Suhr just sounds a bit better to me. I play mostly hi gain rock (no metal), and in other bands funk/top 40 covers, hope this helps you ;)

I've tried just about every pickup out there, and had a Suhr Aldrich in my main guitar for awhile, but once I tried Mark Tremonti's sig bridge pickup that was IT. Now I use it in all my high gain pickup guitars. It is amazing - punchy, aggressive, percussive, but not muddy. PRS makes it (it comes stock in the Tremonti model). You can buy them from PRS or even MF. The new models have the PRS squared bobbins, but if you like the standard rounded ones, you might be able to find a used one.

What woods is your Suhr made with? Does it have a trem?

Jason Becker model, can't get any shreddier than that.
