Hey everyone, this is my 1st post here! I'm excited to be involved in the community. I am going to order a Diezel 4x12 FL Cab to replace my Mesa Boogie Recto cab (which does NOT do my sound any favors lemme tell ya!). Here's my rig:

Diezel VH4S (w/ EL34 tubes)
PRS SC250 Whale Blue (primary axe)
Epiphone Les Paul Elitist (backup)
TC G-System
Dunlop Wah w/ Fasel

I've been doing a lot of research on this site and my dilemma is whether to order the Diezel 4x12 cab with V30's or G12K100's. My initial impression was to get the G12K100's after all the rave reviews it got from everyone, but after looking into it further, I think the V30's might be my thing to start with at least based on my style. I'm not opposed to going to a 2 V30 X 2 G12K100 split in the cab to get a sound that does everything... I just want a good place to start and since I have to choose initially, I figured I might as well ask.

My style is Rock, Mainstream Rock, Progressive Rock, Alternative Rock, Ethereal/Ambeint Rock, Alternative, and some Blues/Jazz or Metal on rare occasion. I like clarity, personality and definition with my notes and a real big sound when chords are strummed but also like when I palm-mute for the sound/notes to stay big, tight and clear. My favorite bands are: Tool, A Perfect Circle, Circa Survive, MUSE, Thrice, The Receiving End Of Sirens, Acceptance, 30 Seconds To Mars, Fair To Midland, Mad At Gravity, Secret and Whisper, Skillet, John Mayer, etc. On a side note... I really love Adam Jones' live sound.

Here is the band I used to play in and wrote all the music for (I played mostly lead but hit low end stuff all the time as well) I'm pretty sure I'm primarily coming out of the right speaker. This was back when I was rocking the Dual Rectifier... If only I had the VH4S back then!

So what do you guys think? V30's or G12K100's for me?

Also, if anyone knows of a place (or places) to order one online I'd greatly appreciate the info! I live close to Denver if you know of anywhere local by small chance.

Thanks in advance for opinions and responses! :)

Andrew

Welcome to the board

Great music !

The V30 will have a better cut in the mix
but the K100 is better for low tuning.
I know this doesn´t help. Anyway You
should choose a frontloaded cab.

Cheers,
Peter

Skip trying to figure this out and buy one of each :D I have a stack, K100's in the bottom cab and V30's in the top. Sounds AWESOME. Both FL cabs as Peter recommended here.

Also, listen to Peter, he seems to know a thing or two about Diezel gear...

I've tested both speakers for a long time and came to the conclusion that V30 in that cab sounds very raw and dirty (IMO) and fits perfectly for rock and hardcore-metalcore stuff. The G12K100 sounds way too neutral for me.

Thanks for all the responses already! I definitely plan to get a Front Loaded Cab, that much I do know!

The one thing I forgot to mention was the lowest I really tune is to Drop D and half a step down so it sounds like V30 might be for me to start and then I might try adding 2 G12K100's later. (Plus they're cheaper to buy than the V30's individually) ;)

If this cab is for gigging and live playing more than not? V30s
If this cab is going to be mic'd for recording? G12Ks

I'm not personally a fan of mixing drivers in an amp, so no X for me. But that's not to say it doesn't get done. I like the neutrality of the G12K100s, personally - I think they allow the amp to be its best whatever Diezel you're playing through. But for cut, it's been said time and time again, V30s have more bite and will sit better in a live mix.

Good luck

I will be jamming/playing/practicing with a band, jamming in my home and playing live on stage much more than in the studio. The studio is a once or twice a year thing the rest of the band makes me do when we put out a new CD. :)

The only reason I didn't like the G12K100's is they sounded thin and sterile to me on all the videos and recordings as opposed to the V30's that sounded thicker with personality and cut through well.

My past two cabs I've used in various rigs have been the Marshall 1960A 4x12 and most recently a Mesa Boogie Rectifier Slant 4x12. Maybe that's influencing my decision...

I guess if I don't like that cab when I get it... I can always throw in two G12K100's and see if I like that better and if I do, throw two more in! Hey, it's just money, right?

I reserved the other FL 412 V30 cab that Brad is getting for the NAMM show. My plan is to take the two extra K100's that I have that came out of my first German FL412 that came with all K100's, and put the two in this new cab when it comes. I plan on running both of my Diezel cabs with the V30/K100 X, I just love that combo.

I was going to say v-30 fl, but you just got one so.

Congrats

What style of music do you primarily play? I'm trying to figure out if the V30 X G12K100 would work for me...
