I only know of a handful of "half-buckers". How about an SD Hot Rail? :dunno:

The hotrail to me will sound more like a full sized humbucker if that what you want. I think the DiMarzio Tone Zone S has some of the qualities of the full sized version but still has a touch of stratyness to it. I'm also interested in hear their Super Distortion S.

il be honest, i tried many singlecoil sized buckers and found they were ok but still lacking. Just swap in a HSS routed pickguard and load a Rio BBQ in

Well, I haven't actually heard it, but the Dimarzio Fast Track 2 is supposed to be one of the fattest pickups for what you're looking for. I'm getting ready to try one in a Tele I just got.

edit - the Hot Rails is a super sounding pickup too. I got one of those in a guitar and it is pretty fat sounding.

I think I'm going to put a single-coil sized 'bucker in the bridge position of my K-Line Strat style guitar, but I really don't know where to start. My R8 LP is my #1 guitar and I have a Riog Grande BBQ in the bridge that I love. It's dark and meaty with high output.

I want a 'bucker for my strat style guitar that has similiar characteristics. Where do I start? I'm pretty sure the Duncan Lil' '59 or JB Jr. wouldn't work. I believe they would both be a too bright and the Lil' '59 most likely has too little output.

This has me thinking that a DiMarzio may work better. Do you agree? If so, which DiMarzio?

Chris

If you want something dark and meaty that's high output, I'd try the Super Distortion S. I'm selling mine for $35 shipped if you wanna try it. I've personally never been a fan of the ToneZone because of its weird midrange.

Edit: The Hotrails, as mentioned above, would probably work fairly well, too. I wouldn't recommend the JB Jr. or the Lil 59, though. I wasn't a huge fan of either of those pickups. Dark and meaty is the last thing I'd use to describe them.

I should've pointed out that this is exactly what I want to do. However, the body is routed for three single coils only. :(

Grab a chisel! Unless the "gear flipper" in you is worried about resale, carve that thing up....the guts will be hidden by the pickguard.

carvin tbh 60. i've got them in the neck and middle positions of my charvel cx 692. i'd say they are warm and round sounding but still have a bit of that single coil twang to them.

Your Super Distortion S is black, right? I really want a white one, but your price is excellent and I may give in to temptation.

Let me email DiMarzio and ask how much a white cover is. I'll get back to you.

Ive never found the JB Jr to be bright. With sc hb's you have to watch the output levels if you are using stock output sc's....its easy to overpower them.
