Hello everybody!!

I have a question for all the users of Mogami w2524 and the sound they get on their guitar rigs.

Few days ago I purchased 3m of w2524 cable along with 2 neutrik jacks and built myself a cable for connecting my guitar to my marshall amp.

The problem is that after my initial tests that I think the cable lacks bass and is bright. I compared it with a spectraflex i have and a medium quality besbeco which both of them have similar capacitance (the spectraflex: is 126pf/m, the besbeco: 120pf/m and the mogami: 130pf/m) and all there are 3m in length. The bassiest of all is the besbeco one (it tends towards muddy but as a cheap cable is better than others) the spectraflex has a nice clear sound with full bass and gain and the mogami is bright with noticeable less bass and maybe a tad less gain.

Is it normal for mogami to be less bassy or I have done something wrong in its assebly? I thought is the "go to" cable to many rock rigs and studios!

I followed the instructions to peal the inner shield, and redone the soldering once more to ensure its not a cold connection and I don't think that anything shorts out.

Any suggestions?

Stelios

I've bought some pre soldered 2524 cables and they are definitely not bright or lacking in bass but neither are they overly dark. If the 2524 comes up as bright and laking bass something is wrong.

Thank you for your answer!

I thought so, any suggestions on what may be wrong?

I have noticed some added brightness with the 2524 over the standard cable but not overly bright. I doubt you did anything wrong.

Just in case, I just cut them and resolderd them (although it didn't seem like anything wrong with the initial one) and will test them again tomorrow!

The problem is not the brightness, is the lack of bass and some gain (although it may seem so due to less bass) in comparison with a similar in specs cable the spectraflex.

The reduced gain is due to the quality of the cable being better. You're not getting cable distortion. Planet Waves add more distortion compared to Mogami.
