Hi everyone, my beloved Ranger 2x12 is having some issues and I'm hoping I can get pointed in the right direction here.

Yesterday, I was playing and the volume began to slowly fade until there was complete silence. No hiss or anything, just totally silent. I checked my guitar, cables, the obvious etc and nothing was out of place. I peeked at the power tubes and sure enough they were not lit at all.

Today I was able to pull the chassis and look around. I tested out a set of new 6L6 power tubes. No change. Power tubes do not light up, no sound coming from the amp.

Amp powers on fine, preamp tubes light fine, standby "works" fine meaning it lights up and doesn't blow a fuse or anything.

Next I checked all the fuses. They are working fine. Then I checked all the connectors. One on the small speaker jack board was not completely seated so I pushed it down. Checked the amp and no light from the power tubes.

Next I removed the power tube board. I noticed several things. First, the connector from the main board to the power tube board had a burn spot on it. After removing this connector, I could see the corresponding pin was burned on the board and the solder connection looked cold. I resoldered this nice and neat. The bottom looked a little sketchy but I figured if the soldered connection on the other side was good, it would be ok.

Next, I noticed that the large blue resistor was NOT soldered in place. It was simply sitting in place with the bottom legs bent upwards and against the pins. So again I soldered this in securely.

Thinking these two areas could be my problem, I put everything back into place and tried the amp again. This time the power tubes lit up perfectly fine as normal. I flipped the amp out of standby after a few minutes and spent a good 20 minutes playing the amp. Both channels worked fine, everything sounded great!!

So then I go to put the chassis back into the combo, get everything in place and I go to play the amp......power tubes do NOT light up again. HUGE BUMMER!

I double checked everything and nothing seems to be out of place. ANY ideas guys?? Did I possibly just get lucky with those two areas? I pulled the chassis, checked the Seating of all tubes, connectors, etc and it all seems fine :(

You have to change that burnt ribbon cable or at the very minimum jumper that burnt section.

Thanks Jerry, that's what I was heading towards. It seems like its a fairly common problem...is there anything that can be done to prevent it from happening? If I get a new assembly I'm assuming I run the risk of the same thing happening and i don't really wanna chance it. If I hardware the two boards together, will that be any better?
