The Sunn is just acting as a power amp pushing the other 2 cabs most likely...

Thunderverb 200 Effects Send --> Sunn coliseum

Now you're driving two stacks with your one preamp sound.

Ok cool, so I really don't know that much about power amps. Would the Sunn most likely be tubed? If so, what is out there for tubed power amps? and could you go from a line out to it instead of the effects loop? Sorry, all of this is kinda new to me so I just want to know as much as I can.

You can use any tube amplifier with an effects send/return as a preamp seperately or a poweramp seperately.

make sure all amps are connected to cabinets at all times for loads.

effects send of the first amp used as a preamp signal to the effects return of the second amplifier. You would control the volume of the second amplifier only, using the return level of the effects loop or you could dime it and control the volume of both with the volume control of the first amplifier.

extremely simple and effective

ok, stupid question time. if you are coming out of the (master) amps effect send into the (slave) amps return, how does the speaker cabs connected to the master amp get signal? isn't the signal no longer coming back into the masters effects return, thereby not going into the power section to drive the cabs?

note, this was why some amp manufacturers designed the slave circuit/output on the back of some amps.

depends on how the loop is designed to be honest. Parallel loop would be ideal but there are other topologies that exist that could cause a potential problem. It deals with the type of TRS jack used and whether they bypass the original signal 100%, lift the connection 100%, or whether it still exists but is returned to the return jack connection.

If it becomes a problem due to design, you still do not need to have a line out installed - simply come out of the effects master send with a Y split, one returns to the same amplifier like a loop-back, the other goes to the slave return.

ahh, i didn't even think about a parallel loop. so used to series.... thanks for the clue. i always seem to need a clue.lol

The Sunn0)) Concert Slave is a pretty bitchin' solid state poweramp. A buddy of mine used to have one. He was running it with a bass rig though. I haven't seen them run for guitar much, but then again...

I'm pretty sure that Orange amps have a line out on the back for that reason. A lot of people, especially in the stoner rock genre, run rigs like that. I know I'm going to use 2 heads at some point!

I would bet he just hooked the line out of the Orange to the slave and turned it all up. Meanwhile, I'm with Ventura...

What band was that?

Inquiring minds want to know...

He's like a Frusciante offshoot :dunno:

The suspense is literally keeping me up at night! I gotta know!

Line out installed? Nope.... Buy a Weber Mass or any other load box/att. With a line out. You can slave any amp u want with your power amp of choice. And btw.... If this guy is local to you, why not talk to him directly and pick his brain on his rig? He'd probably love to talk about it!

Hahaha! They're called The Roller. Pure thick nasty Sludge metal. They're in (where, just broke up) Austin and I'm in Corpus, we played a show with them in Austin with Kylesa and Orange Goblin, his sound was MASSIVE.

Thanks for all the info!

There is never a call for that much volume on a small stage IMO because the volume will usually drown out the PA and thus the drummer, vocals etc. Last time I teched for Bison they had a ton of cabs on stage and I could hear nothing but droning guitar, I didn't even mic the guitarists and I the bar's system wasn't enough to compete so it was a big mess. Unless you are playing arenas, stadiums or really really large halls/bars there's just no need. I love the feeling of air moving behind me but not if it sacrifices the band effort.

I would like to use this type of setup when we play outside. But yea inside as well depending on the venue. For me it would be the same as running 2 guitars. I'd be running 2 half's and not 2 fulls.

.....at this moment.
