I had an old fat vertical magnet hot single coil style pickup out of a no name ibanez guitar 15 years ago that was my absolute favorite. It did the hot PAF single coil thing like in the 80s but sounded quacky if you relaxed on your picking and was just an awesome all around single coil for hot bridge pickups.

It unfortunately got ruined when I was changing it out of one guitar to put into another. I’ve never been happy with the options that exist out there to replace it. None of the tone captures online have ever sounded like it did and I need help finding what I’m looking for.

What are some vertical oversized slug magnet, unorganized, overwound single coils that exist? Maybe scatter wound maybe not? It needs to match up to a tonezone type of pickup for output and preferably be unpotted.

What are my options?

No, that’s a blade. I’m looking for vertical slug magnets type designs. Most modern designs today use a flat bar magnet and steel smaller slugs, and don’t sound anywhere close IMO.

like your regular fender PU ?...but hotter?

if the size matters, schecter is infamous for fattest slugs in their PU's...

Yeah basically. The cover of the knockoff even slipped over the pickup like a fender pickup, the removed cover look was badass and sounded great.

Size of the slug itself does matter as they were the magnets themselves vertically oriented.

was hoping RT had more to recommend for builders of this style but I know super hot vintage style single coils are a bit of a niche unless you’ve played a good one.

there are guys here that are more knowledgable for sure...give them time to respond...meanwhile you're stuck with me and schecter fat bobins....monstertone pickups !!! :ROFLMAO:

If I’m following you just looking for singles that don’t use the ceramic bar, but rather magnetized poles?

Anderson and Schecter are known for building single coils with huge pole pieces.

correct me if im wrong...anderson WAS/IS a pickup designer of Schecter monstertones anyway...he worked there, didn't he?

Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder, YJM and Dimarzio whichever one Malmsteen used.

Or send your broken one off to someone to rewind it.

I won a contest years ago on MLP; dude asked me what I wanted and I told him a Tele set for a Telemaster that was going into drop C.

Was NOT his fortè, but he bombed on it. To this day those are the best pickups I’ve ever played.

If you’re willing to wait AND pay, this is the guy I’d recommend.

He’s also the guy that all the vintage LP guys have rewind their vintage $2k pickup sets…
