Henning Bottle Rocket Prototype #2 - DONE! PICS!

Well, I just got the next set of prototype boards fabricated and stuffed and put one board in the existing Prototype #1 and everything works great now and the tweaking of components is done as it sounds like I wanted it to. That amp is now done and ready to go.

However... as you may remember, I have two different preamp designs that I wanted to test. Due to the tweaking and some issues with the first set of boards, I decided to wait until this set of prototype boards was ready. So, now I'm building Prototype #2 that has the board with the second preamp implemented. Here are some pics:

So, once this one is done, I'm gonna do some testing of the two prototypes and determine which one sounds better and that will be the final implementation for all Bottle Rockets. The tweaking is done because this second prototype has a preamp that is a bit closer to the ROD channel of the Cherry Bomb and I know that it will work. All that is left is to pick which implementation is production. I'm going to rent a local rehearsal room and invite some players who want to check the two amps out and help me pick. We'll spend a few hours with the amps and have a few beers as well. Should be cool... Anybody in the Los Angeles area wanna come? :D Probably make some clips of both prototypes so those who aren't local can weigh in as well...

Unfortunately, hobby builder can not get this kinda chassis unless they are willing to order 30 or more, or pay $500 for a prototype.

Unless one wants to build a SLO clone. Then you can get one of these for a fairly reasonable price ---> SLO Clone Parts

Seriously though, you need to design the chassis in SolidWorks or something similar, produce the drawing files that can be used, find a metal fabricator willing to do anything for an amp builder, find a painter who does powder coating and a silk screener to do something like this. It'll be $500 or so for a one off as I said...

Soooo envious of the things you can do, man! Congratulations and continued success to you and I hope to one day scratch up the cash to get on this train. Awesome stuff

Wish I could be there too. It looks amazing Steve! Can't wait to hear it!

hi Steve thanks alot... i am indeed in the mids of soldering up tge board i ordered from C3 ... i have the chassis but am interested to build one more SLO clone with PTP and wanna learn how to mod the hell out of it... i would like to source one out non power coated... so i can learn how to punch the holes and etc... i seen hammond selling afew amp like chassis for tube amp ... but no idea if its strong enough to hold the weight

you have built a very nice amp !!!

Steve, I can not WAIT to get to try some of the Henning gloriousness in June! You literally have one of the only actually amps that I GAS for.

Oh, OK!

You can get a Marshall style, un-punched chassis here ---> Unpunched 100 watt Plexi Chassis

That chassis is what I used for my original PlexRod prototype. I know TAD is in Europe, but it was the only place I could find exactly what I wanted and it was very high quality...

Did you know I did a whole "How To" entry with detailed pics on how to punch a custom chassis on the Henning Amps website? It's right here, check it out ---> Punching a Custom Chassis

This is me actually cutting the TAD chassis I used for the PlexRod. Hope it helps you out...

Exactly how I feel. Your eye for design is so classy too.

Is it going to be a different preamp than its larger bro? Can't wait to hear clips!

So, there are two prototypes, each with a different preamp design. One is closer to the ROD channel of the Cherry Bomb (but still fairly different) and the other is completely different in terms of component values as well. I'm going to pick one of them for production. So, yeah, different than the big bro no matter what...
