got into a HUGE "knock down drag out" with another guitar player over whether Diezels can "hang" in a heavy, thrashing mix. This douchebag's saying the Diezels, and Herbert in particular, CANNOT cut through the mix- WTF??? :gethim:

So in my pissed off state of mind, I recorded this track of me trying to play Randy, through my Herbert doing its best HI-gain Marshall tone - but with BALLZ. Can you say KERRANG? Ausgezeichnet!!!

Not all Diezel players detune!! However, dropped or standard, they FUCKING crush. So to all haters - Halt die Klappe!

HAHAHAHAH!

I wonder why you would even loose your time arguing with those people. Amp doesn't cut trough the mix is the dumbest argument I've heard. At this point I have gone through a lot of amps & don't remember a single amp that didn't cut through the mix.

these are mostly people which EQ like bass: 17:00; mid : 8:00; high 12:00; and full mid-cut, playing against someone with EQ-skills and then wonder why they don't cut through...

`Tallica!!!!!!

I dont give a damn...

Few days ago i compared the Herbert with two Marshall DSL100 in a Stereo setup. The Marshall sounded much darker than Herbert. And they had more Gain. He´s the Lead guitar Player in the Band. There is a rhythm guitar player too. They play rock and pop stuff. He never had a problem with the mix.

well i have cut through many a mix with the herbert, those people probably have never even played a show or tracked a session with a diezel and they are just throwing back up what they might have heard from somebody else. your tone sounded thick Mike!
People always will say something sucks or something doesnt, and if i were to bet, i would bet they probably sounded like ass on anything. I have said this before too, if you can play you should be able to get a decent sound out of about anything and if you cant get a 4,000 dollar amp to sound good well then maybe the problem is the driver and not the car ;)
dont let those idiots ruffle your feathers Mike, that clip sounded rockin to me brotha! btw which guitar?

Bingo! I'm currently scoring a future flick for Pixar and I have my Ibanez J-Custom in Drop C and to quote the engineer....."Holy Shit!...that thing pretty much eats anything I've ever heard".....so yah, some people need to get their ears checked.

      So true!

I don't do much recording, however I play live around 200 nights a year. Unfortunately "almost" all of the FOH wannabees in my area have no clue how to run a live band and the guitar gets buried in the Hip-Hop style (all bottom end) mixing that so many of these would be sound techs seem to gravitate towards these days. When we run our own sound which is sometimes the case, my guitar not only cuts through, but also sounds fat & warm regardless of what amp I'm using. Since I've been using Diezels, that sound is just fatter & warmer! :D

I guess my point is that the whole "doesn't cut through the mix" in a live situation is completely dependent on the sound-tech's ability to mix. Unfortunately, these days that has become a rare breed in my experience. Too many DJ's that think they are sound engineers........
