Herbert Columbus question ?

Can the Herbert only be connected to the Columbus via the xlr jack?

I am using a 7 pin midi cable and it seems Herbert does not want to go into omni mode.
When I hold mute and v2 I don't see all the function lights blink.

I'm using this cable with my Herbert and I have no problems whatsoever.
