I love Diezel but I am super frustrated. This is the third time now that I have blown a main fuse and the Tube position 3/4 fuse. The Tube 3/4 position fuse actually melted to the inner cradle/cap...for the third time! This happened from taking the amp off stand by, cabled to simple pedal board, with the volume at 1!!! What is the deal here, I am using the correct tubes? Would a bad tube cause such a catastrophic fuse failure?

I have spent hundreds in repairs over the last year. I LOVE the Diezel sound but I am losing faith.

Larz

I've had similar problems with my Herbert, Peter serviced it at told me that it was a powertube problem.

Sorry Larz but I have pain in my stomach
when it comes to reliability of EL34 power tubes.

So please call the tube distributor or the tube
manufacture to tell them Your frustration.
I had 50% issues on my last batch of tubes.
Can You imagine my frustration ?

I LOVE the EL34 but I´m losing faith.

Please UNPLUG the amp and check the clambs
inside the power tube sockets 3 and 4. They should be
tight. The Chinese tubes have bigger pins and
if You swap to an other type, the pins are
some times loose and have no contact.
Your local tech should know that.

I can suggest a sextett of KT77 JJ but be safe to have
tight tube clambs before You insert new tubes. I´m
always ready to assist Your tech.

You should use ceramic tube fault fuses. They don´t
explode and don´t do a big mess inside the fuse holder.

Best regards,
Peter

why is tube quality getting worse in modern times? one would suggest, that with the forthgoing development in every technical area they should manage to improve quality of the new tubes in contrast to those of the 70s. but the contrary seems to be the standard now: worse tube quality. is it because they use old machines which are not being modernised?

Tubes are no longer military driven. Its as simple as that.

Thank you, Peter, for your quick reply and support. I really appreciate. I will use the tips you provided and check into the KT77 JJs. Thanks for being there.

same problems here, after a lot of sets i have good ones now(i hope)

I´m always on the search for good tubes
and will keep You informated.

Thanks Larz and Shadow for the patience.

Im happy with the ones now. I got them a bit longer then 10 months back and they are still holding up. These are the newer ones you prefer. I also thought for a year or even longer that it was the amp, but now i can clearly see it isnt so.

Its just a shame that the quality isnt there or hasent been there for tubes now for a while.

We(the consumers) have a frustration, but i can amagine how it is for Peter, having to test a surtan amount all the time.
