So last week i just got back from the summer leg of the Disciple tour which was amazing, it was my favorite gig to date. last night i played a jam type show with my friends and the herbie was acting strange! I retubed it about 4 or five days ago with jj kt77's and it sounded amazing. last night the sound would just stop, with no fade up or down involved, just no sound. i would turn it off wait then turn it back on it worked sounded great, played about 4 more songs and stopped again. this time i waited checked all the fuses and cables etc. and turned it on, nothing. then i turned it off waited and turned it on again and it was back rocking, sounded fine and i finished the gig. luckily this was just a fun jam gig with some of my friends and not an important one. BUT my band Down From Up has a showcase on friday and i need to know that the diezel is gonna deliver, i ordered an einstien as a back up but as fate would have it its not in yet and my only other amp is a vetta :( (i wouldn't have it had i not been endorsed by line 6 for a while) any help would be great i am gonna practice tonight with it and see what happens. i emailed Peter last night but have not heard back from him yet so i thought this would be second best to him. help please

Probably the mains fuse. If you open that jack with its fuseholder, you'll find two fuses. Closer to you is the spare, more inside the amp is the mains fuse. Change that, try again.

Do you have a digital multimeter which has a "beep" when you connect black and red?

no i dont have one that beeps , where is the main fuse holder? i only checked the 3 power amp fuses, it was hard to see back there on a dim stage. but wouldn't a fuse work or not? it shouldn't work sometimes and not others right?
thanx duesie! you rock

well it wasnt the fuse and the amp worked all day with no problems. i turned it on and off and then played on it etc. all day long. wtf

Maybe it was just some bad voltage supply. Pretty sure there is a minimum an amp has to have in order to function right. Kinda like a car that has an alternator die and runs off the battery till it dies, the battery has juice but not enough to make the car run.

i dont know whats going on, it did it again tonight at band practice, it worked fine for about an hour and a half and then just stopped sending sound???  its not the fuses its not the power tubes....i am clueless, i talked to Uwe and he said it might be the phase inverter preamp tube, but im gonna change those dudes tommorow. im really upset, this thing has been a tank for a year and now this. i havent changed anything in my rig. the voltage thing could have been it but our practice space has been the same for over a year, so now i know thats not it. wtf!! i wanna be rocking this thing for the showcase on friday and not my damn vetta  anyone? Peter did you get my email??? Duesie any other thoughts?

i just put in some kt 77's for a different voice, in no way do i think it needed tubes, anyone else out there have a similar problem with there diezel??

well i talked to Uwe and now the amp is back to him so he can check it out. luckily my buddies in the Disciple camp got me a Splawn quickrod to use tommorow so that solves the vetta issue. i shall report on the results of the herbert when i hear from Uwe in a week or so.

Hi Andy,

as a gigging musician without a tech you need the following things with any tube amp when just have one amp:

a) a digital multimeter which is able to read also amperes and has this beep function. It will cost you 10-20$, doesn't has to be a Fluke !!!!
Its good to check a lot: fuses, cables, for biasing and checking basic things like voltages

b) A full set of spare FUSES !!! I will write a stickie soon with an overview for all Diezel models and all fuse values/sizes.

c) a full set of spare powertubes and a couple of preamp tubes. Ok, one might say Herbert could finish a gig even running with just 2 or 4 tubes - but if you have the next gig the very next day . . .

Now I'm curious what Salwender will diagnose - I'm sure its something easy like your speaker cable . . .

oh i have an amp tech, we just couldn't figure it out. All the gigs i do are with signed artist so there is always a guitar tech on tour (Disciple has there own tech and all of the country gigs hire techs for the tours). the only band i play with that is not signed is Down From Up and thats my baby that i have worked on, but thanks for the advice for sure, that sticky with all fuses would be very helpful  I am very interested to see what Uwe has to say. i have been messing around with the splawn all day and dont get me wrong it does marshall sounds better than marshall but i miss the "feel" of the diezel, the compression thing diezle's have i just love. oh well i think tonight should be cool anyways

oh yeah i checked it with 3 speaker cables so im pretty sure thats not it ;)
