personally, i think the mid cut is kinda the herbert signature. but it does cause it to get lost in the mix. but i am not caring for the herbert much without the mid cut on. without it, it's not much different from other high gain heads imo.

i am already running a decimator in the herbert's loop. i am wondering if anyone has tried an EQ (graphic or parametric) to try to find a certain frequency to help it cut though better with the mid cut on (old dimebag/ gary holt trick. boost the mids in one place, cut them somewhere else) yes, i know mids help cut though.

gonna give this a whack this weekend with a 10 band mxr. dont have a parametric yet, been wanting a presonus 3b for a while.

both at noon.

i tried the settings suggested in the manual. (10 and 2/ 2 and 10) not bad either.

any suggestions?

int 10 o´clock, level 1.

i tried that, pittbull still dominates it. have to turn the herbert up too far to hear it.

ran an mxr 10 band in the loop with the decimator this weekend, with the mids turned up a bit. helped some, and it still retained the "herbert" sound.

gonna try the "dime-holt" trick (boost the mids in front with the eq, mid cut on the amp) next weekend.

then lastly, i will just try the eq in the loop without the mid cut.

I understand what you mean about Dime and Grady boosting the mids with the Blue MXR eq and then after the head, then scooping the out with a parametric eq. But I don't understand the "holt" part.

RIP Dime

And how do you run your presence and deep?

presence to taste, around 3 oclock. i do like a lot of treble. deep at noon. isp subs sometimes, and the bass is incredible...tight and focused. it's deff the mids that need tweaking.

gary holt from exodus also boosts his mids before the amp (presonus 3b parametric). his tone on the last 2 cd's crushes and cuts like a razor. you can hear everything he does, especially live.

gonna try the mid boost up front this coming weekend. didn't really work well putting it in the loop, seemed like i was way over-eq'ing the amp. will also try the eq in the loop with the mid cut off.

edit....i am running my channel controls pretty much close to noon-ish. tried running the mid knob up with the mid cut on, and didn't dig it much. really need to get a bro over to start tweaking it while i play.

Well, I raised up with Marshall, so I had to realize that all Diezel amps (no matter if it´s Herbert or another one) will ever give me a tone like these amps. But Herbert gives me something no other amp can deliver. And often I do miss something playing another amps.
I tried out the eq of my gmajor but in the amp loop of course. I boosted the 3kHz a little bit. The amp gets more fizzy distortion with boosting this frequency. And it still doesn´t sound like an other amp´s natural voicing.
But wouldnt it be more helpful to buy another amp???

(dial in some more volume)

:D

Have you tried different cabs/speakers to see if that helps your issue? I had a hard time getting mine to sound as good as I knew it could until I found the right speaker.

speakers tried so far....

VHT deliverance cab with V30's and k100's.
vader cab with custom emminance (sucks out loud, but part of that is the cab itself)
randall warhead stack with V30's and emminance 15's.

the best was the warhead stack, might have been the bottom end it has with the V30's mid spike. still got walked all over by the pittbull UL though the one deliverance cab.

i have a box of G12-75's, but no where to put them yet.

I didn't like mine through the Vader cab or Mesa oversized much at all. My Marshall 1960B was the best I got but still not quite what I wanted so I swapped two of the 75's for EVM 12l's and  Then I just went all EVM's. I just got a diezel front load with k100's but I haven't had a chance to try the Herbert through it yet.

A few days ago I tried some speaker combinations. With no result.
I´ve tried x patterns with V30/Greenbacks, V30/G12T75.

THe difference it´s not worth losing any thothgs on it. The V30 is the loudest one of those I´ve tried. So there is no need to.
So my FL cab is complete with v30 again.

here is what i do:
-mids 80-90%
-midcut level 90%
-midcut intensity 25-50%
-bass and deep at 50% or less!!!
-treble and presence always kinda 60/60 or 30/90 or 50/70 depends on the cab.

seriously, try it out!!

My setting: Mid-Cut Off

Cuts through like a knife at practice and on stage.
Try these settings without the mid cut:

dimebag trick works pretty good. banged the front with a mxr graphic with the mids maxed. cuts thru much better. gonna score a presonus 3b parametric and do the gary holt trick next.

So, then UL really blows the Herbert away huh? I wonder what an Ultralead with all new Mercury Magnetics iron would do to the Herbert? Lol. Just messing with you. Seriously though, your comments are making me more anxious to get my UL back than I am to get my Herbert?

chris, the pittbull just dominates most amps. it becomes a volume thing with the herbert (tho the herbert has more than enough volume to compensate.lol)

spent some more time with the herbert before heading to tampa for the d.o.a. party. god, that amp has some wild tones going one. addictive as hell. channel 2+ kills for brutal rhythms. hardly ever go to channel 3. AND THE LOOPS!! every amp should have 3 loops.
