Hi all,

Just wondering what your opinions are as far as power attenuators go?

The last thing I want to do is lose any tone but by the same token, I dont usually play the amp loud enough to get the most out out it.

180 watts is a LOT of power! Is the TD Hotplate the preferred power attenuator? There is also one out by Rivera now that seems to get great reviews but none of them seem to go up to 180 watts.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Sincerely,
Dana

Attenuators are not recommended by Diezel. The master volume is all what you need - the amp's sound is produced by the preamp and the poweramp adds volume and depth to the tone - the power tubes don't overdrive (as in old Marshalls w/o master), so an attenuator is useless - except you want to slave your amp into something or need the line out of something like the hotplate - but for playing just stick to the master volume.

In my home I have a multi-head setup with a Hotplate in the loop. But I have never had to use the Hotplate with the Herbert. You can really dial in great low volume (extremely low!) tones by adjusting the channel volume and master volume.

Do you have the Herbert already or are you planning to buy?
