I've been reading up about what tubes work best in the Diezel Herbert, and I've seen people mention SED =C= EL34 are supposed to come stock in the amp. I recently picked up a new Herbert in the US, and it came stock with TAD EL34 power tubes, with TAD and Ruby preamp tubes. Are the latest models being equipped with TAD? Thanks.

Last I saw Peter comment, it was still the winged c's, but that was awhile ago.

The change to SED Winged =C= happened not so long ago. Before Peter used TAD Tubes. Depending on how long your Herbert waited in the shop to be picked up by a lucky guy (you in this case :) ) it might very likely be one of the "older" ones with TAD Tubes.

excellent, thanks for the info guys.

the SED seem to be the generally preferred tube from what I've read around here. Is it worth swapping over? I play a 7 string for the most part, so I'm looking for something just a hair tighter with the low B. I'm actually considering throwing a pair of KT88 in with the TAD or SED.

Just wanted to thank you guys for the info. I installed a pair of KT88. It did what I wanted, what a great feature to have a bias for the separate pairs. Really diggin this amp Mr. Diezel.

little clip I did with the KT88.

Clip sounds great!

thanks guys ;)

I changed the outside stock EL34 to Ruby KT88's. Tightened it up a little, while still retaining a lot of that snarl from the EL34. Very happy with the results.

Also might want to check the bias, my new factory tubes had drifted a little, so the TAD EL34 were running a little cold. I replaced the stock TAD/Ruby preamp tubes with a Tungsol in V1, and Shuguang 9th gen's in the rest except the loop, which I left stock.

Eric - try RFTs in v1 and v2 and keep the 9th gen Chinese in the rest of the pre-amp. Sounds awesome.

Hi Matt, very interesting, are they NOS? Really worth the $40 bucks per tube, and where's the best place to get them?

Yeah, they are NOS. Worth it is subjective. I personally thing so, but here is a good description of what to expect. ..

RFT ECC83 - East German made tube, quite a 'dark' sounding tube, with it's midrange focussed on lower mid frequencies. A very 'ballsy' sounding tube, great for metal, hard rock.

I bought mine here awhile back...

another place is kCA but they are more expensive...

excellent. Thanks Matt.
