So I just bought a Herbie, was dead set on a VH4 but the deal was to good to pass up.....

Just need a little bit of clarification on some switching aspects...

Channel 2's +/- is NOT midi switchable, correct? The only way to make it switchable is to do the +/- mod, correct?

I have a ground control pro and a GCX, so I will be able to do the switching with that, but I just wanted to get this clarified before I perform the mod.

Thanks!

Also, a question for Peter, the Herbie I bought is one of the first 300, what would it take to get it modified to a current model Herbert?(not intrested in the small tonal changes over the few years, just the power tube LED's and external bias)

that is correct the -/+ is not switchable unless you do the the mod

Can the external biasing be added on to the older ones? That would be sweet. What's the deal with the tube LEDs?

Well, anything can be done if you have the money and know how.... From what I've seen of pics of the old style herbie, you COULD just desolder the bias pots, install new ones that can be accessed from the outside, and just run wires to the board... Which is what I will probably end up doing, since I will be swapping tubes alot. Bias test points for the outside are pretty easy to do as well....

As for the LED's, the Herbert has LED's that will light up in the event of a tube failure, showing you which tube is shot. Don't really know how that works, but it can't be to hard to figure out... Not really a deal breaker for me to have them, but would be nice.
