I'm sure this question has been beaten to death by now.... but...

I'm debating whether or not my Vader 2x12 could be a huge factor in how I feel about my Herbert so far. I've spent a lot of time trying to get passed the "nameplate on the head needs to match the nameplate on the cab" mentality. Eminence Legends don't exactly have a lot of character though. I really love how they sound with my ENGLs, but maybe the Diezel/Vader combo just doesn't fit my chops. Vader is now offering cabs with Eminence Legends and Man o Wars in an X pattern. I'm going to throw some of those in one of mine and see if that makes a difference.

In the meantime....

I need some opinions on the Diezel cabs. I've seen a few people talk about how amazed they were when they got a Diezel cab, and how it completely changed their opinion of the head. I play mostly Black/Death metal. It's not the deathcore sloppy nonsense that's so popular right now. I like good tones. I need a cab with the ability to handle the low tuning like the Vader cab does....but also have a midrange. I'm a strong believer that music is made in the mids.

I've had someone attempt to explain the theories behind the front vs rear loaded cabs. He wasn't quite adept enough to get his point across. Since I don't have the luxury of trying anything before I buy it...I have to rely solely on soundclips and opinions from other musicians. Everyone on here was very helpful with tube suggestions, so I'm sure everyone has an idea of what I need for this as well.

Thanks in advance,

Chad

First off, I don't play much else than regular tuning. I do however play metal, so I can strongly recommend the front-loaded Diezel cab for this. My 4x12" has the G12K100 speakers, but since you seem to love your mids so much maybe you should go for the V30 one instead, I don't know. To me though, the G12K100 is more neutral sounding and it can take a lot more beating from the power section without any breakup. Perhaps one of each is the best solution for you :D
best of luck

Hey Chad,

as I briefly discussed in the gallery thread, I think the combination Diezel + Vader doesn't work very good. The Vader doesn't have enough high-mids, too much bass (for Diezel amps, which already have much bass) and sound very shrill and sterile.

It made a night-and-day difference switching to the Diezel cabinets. But to be honest, to me even a simple Marshall cabinet sounded better with the Diezels than the Vader. As I said I don't get the hype.

For the Herbert I'd choose either the 4x12 rearloaded loaded with hempcone or the 4x12 frontloaded with G12Ks. I favour the hempcone cab because it has much more high-mids and feels a bit more classical, but still is very tight and focused and it has a very nice projection. Even for metal the hempcones work wonderfully in my opinion. The only problem might be that they break up too fast if you play with very high volumes. In this case I'd choose the FL G12K cab.

Hope that helped.

Man, now I want to test the RL hempcone cab! Maybe I will skip christmas presents for the family this year

Do it! You wouldn't regret it

Even the 2x12 hempcone sounds so damn good and huge with the Herbert, absolutely incredible.

if you are looking for a new cab, seriously the RL Hempcone cab is the way to go for the Herbert. I own both & think this is a match made in heaven!!! i dont play metal...but the tone is awesome!!

But if you are worried about the breakup., the G12K100 FL cab may be a better route. Both cabs can hold the bass like no other. G12K100 is quite neutral & doesnt color the tone @ all. Hempcones have some color...but when used properly will make you cry like a 4 year old girl!!

its a tough choice...thats why i have both!! :D

Pauly is right. I have both cabs for the same reason :D

I definitely understand that the Legends aren't for everyone. They absolutely sound "lifeless" with certain setups. I manage to great tones out it with my ENGL SE though. Also, I love the look and reliability of my Vaders. I know aesthetics shouldn't really be a huge factor in something like this, but I'm honest enough to admit that it does play into it. I always worry about cloth grills and tolex covers, because I generally have to rely on other people to help me carry equipment....and my friends are somewhat careless with my gear from time to time.

V30s have never really suited me. Their upper mids have always sounded a little piercing to me. Sounds like I'd definitely be looking at the K100s or the Hempcones. You guys are killing me. Luckily, I found out that the company I work for just decided to lift our two year pay freeze, so I can expect that by April (also tax return time!). I'll need to make a decision by then. I'll have to keep browsing through threads. Maybe I'll find some old posts from users who've expressed the same dilemma in the past.

Again...thank you everyone!

Give me a call or PM and I will be happy to explain the differences and help you find the right fit for you in a cab. I have said much about the cabs in other threads. IMO your fit is the Front Loaded cab.

Looks like Terry won't have a hard time to convince us to sell our vader 4x12s... :hys:

Haha. I definitely won't sell my Vaders. I'll just add Diezels to the collection. I have an entire storage room rented out for gear, so I have no problem with adding more.

now you sound like me...whole room for gear...and a trailer.

Yo Pauly - how's the new Hempcone? What's this color you are talking about?

i hated the gov/man combination with my herbert, i would go with a front loaded diezel cab or a bogner uberkab. so far the uberkab was my favorite cab other than the diezel cabs i tried with the herbert. i also used a mesa cab with the herb but i didnt like it as much.

Neither do I, I much prefer my Framus Cobra cab with greenbacks over my mesa recto cab. Smoother, less harsh, and much tighter with the framus cab.

Using my VHT fatbottom cab just makes my Herbert sound like a VHT.

The best fit for any Diezel amp is going to be one of our cabs. The decision of which one comes down to what amp(s) you use and what musical style, tunings, guitars etc. that a person uses.
