How many of the high gain guys here has it and is a keeper for them?

I did a search on the tube and it seems like Hermansson mod is just about as tight as every bit but with a distinct sizzle on topend that sound 3D ? Full and spongy tone there....

But what his work on mods has to offer between his orange and red channel ? Do they all sound aggressively high gain or they still a distinct between his orange and red channel ?

I think Orange and Red are the same circuit, but I use Red for Modern and Orange for Raw/Vintage so I've never done a proper A/B on mine. The Green channel is also modified and is a proper clean channel (though one of the switches can get a little grit going); can't say I use clean channels though lol (it does sound nice though).

It can definitely get tight as fuck, especially if you opt for the 3 way tight switch, but I still manage to hear some Recto thickness in there when compared to my various Jose-esque amps. Similarly for the top end you can opt for a 3 way bright switch, but I find you need to play with the presence a lot.

My biggest complaint is that I don't love it with a V30 and very much prefer it with a Greenback and/or Alnico Cream (probably helps the mids). Mine is listed in the classifieds so I can't claim it as a keeper, but given it's uniqueness I wish I could (just need to be more fiscally responsible with a 2nd kid coming and needing a new car).

Obligatory shitty phone clip (first half) :

I had one - a rev f. It sounded best a lower volumes. Then I turned up it had hollow mids and very much sizzle. Very modern. Too much for me. With certain pickups unable to play for me

My Hermansson 5GS Marshall and Recto mod are both keepers- outside of their tightness and dynamics, they actually sound very different.

The Recto is Definitely a top tier amp- Try to get a 2 channel triple recto as the donor- it allows you to get the tightness knobs, and the 150w works especially well for the hermansson sound. Dont expect it to sound like a recto though- it is functionally an entirely separate amp.

The marshall has a bit more compression and a lot more punch, and sounds closer to a standard amp - but definitely does the hermansson thing. Either one is worth getting- they are even better sounding in the room than clips would show, and incredibly fun to play

The descriptions are going to vary depending on the amp and mods that were on the amp. I have found the "Multi-watt" versions to be the best. The best version which will be the keeper for me is a Dual Rectifier Mw with all the switches. I previously had a non Multiwatt Triple with all the switch and it made it very dynamic. There was so much you can do with the switches and 3 channels.

The 2 channel versions (Rev G Triple and Rev F Dual) I had were not really pleasing to me. That's just my opinion. either way if you want tight and something brutal there's nothing that sounds like a Hermansson modded Recto. It's an entirely different sound than what the Ground Zero mod that's been circling around.

Hermansson made it voiced entirely different from the recto huh?
