Im a complete Newb when it comes to Bruces offerings but Ive heard nothing but great things. Ive found a couple of his amps at my local GC here in NYC and Im seriously thinking about picking one up...

Im looking for something with 2ch's ; Agreat clean and a great chunk to searing lead that takes pedals really well.. I pretty heavily entrenched in the Neal Schon, Michael Schenker, Gary Moore school of playing with heavy emphasis on Bluesy pentatonic stuff along with heavy elements of Jimi and Robin Trower. I will be playing both Strats and LP's through it..

Am I better off with a 2x12 combo or just pair it with a 2x12 cab?
What speakers does the amp favor ( what was it voiced for?)
How is the FX loop?
How does it take to pedals?
Is there anything in particular that I should knopw about the amp in terms of features/ standout aspects?

Thanks in advance

Kage

BTW, Bruce, Ive met you on several occaisions at NAMM, Pat( Mentoneman ) introduced us at Tone Merchants..

I think the Renegade can meet your needs. "Chunk" is up to the ear of the beholder. My Renegade 212 combo doesn't have a serious kicking low end, but it fills the 'guitar range' in the mix very well.

It take pedals fine, the only exception is that the clean channel has a gain control (which I love) so that you can dial up some decent overdrive on the clean channel or have it pristine. This range of amp overdrive can mess with some pedals if you don't have the gain dialed at the right place, but otherwise I see no issues. The effects loop is as good as any amp I've owned, and you can switch it on and off = convenient.

For me, the Renegade is the right combination versatility while keeping a strong vibe of "plug and play" sensibilities. It isn't a jack-of-all-trades, but it still covers a lot of territory.

Thanks for the reply!!! I dont need the thing to have crazy bottom end, Im a Rock guy, not a metal guy. Im going to have to get down to GC and give this puppy a whirl and if I like it enough, Ill pick it up and take it to a few jams to see how it sits in the mix with bass and drums.. If I dont gel with it, Ill just get it back to GC within 30 days...

Anyone else?

I find my Renegade sounds better in the mix than it does on its own, and it sounds great on its own.

Best Amp I Own. I got mine to replace a Blackstar Series One 100. The Blackstar is built better but the Egnater has it in tone. I swopped out the V4 valve in Channel 2 for a ECC81, this has taken the edge off the drive channel for a more rock tone than metal. Love the valve mix, dont know why nobody has done it before. The killer bit for me is that I have never had an amp that sounds as good quiet, we all play too loud at home. Channel 2 sound's great at any volume but like all amps as you turn down the volume the cleans start to sound weak, if you then crank up the Main 2 master volume at about 2-3 oclock all the sustain comes back. I hope that Bruce always has a amp with this feature, I have never been as happy "25 Years" playing guitar as I am with this amp, the second master volume is a work of pure genius. The 2x12 TM cab to my ear sounds better closed up, with the cab open sounds too loose some how. Pedals, I play with a EP Booster always on and turn it down a tad with humbuckers. I then use a Rothwell Heartbreaker for an extra kick. OK there are better amps but you would need at least three to live without the Renegade. Would I upgrade to a Tourmaster......NO the Renegade works perfectly for me, I think it is that good.

The 1x12 cab is for playing through in the middle of the night, the 2x12 cabs bottom end shakes the walls even when played quiet.

I love my Renegade. I have had both the 2 X 12 combo and the head with the 2 X 12 Tourmaster cabinet. I prefer the head with the Tourmaster cab- sounds great, really flexible. Not a great reverb on the Renegade but so what. Powerful, flexible, great sounding, no problems.

I just picked up the head and the 2x12TM cab and love it! I'm a huge Schon fan too, and I think you won't be dissapointed at all with the Renegade.

Great tips, and nice rig, Keith! I've yet to try some tube swapping but will experiment when I get a chance. I have a boat load of pre and power tubes laying around that I'll try out.

Has anyone played the Renegade through a cab loaded with Greenbacks or the G65's? I like the 80's in the Tourmaster cab but I'd like to check out how it sounds with greenies.

a small package of Phil-X and the Drills came this morning.......F*!< Yeah....... Phil X-Mas Happyness

Have a Rockin X-Mas Everybody.

Gainzilla, another reason to go with a head over the combo, I just played the Renegade through my Mesa vertical 2x12 w/V30's and WOW! I like the tone better through that cab than I do the TM 2x12. Not that the TM doesn't sound good, but I noticed after switching back and forth between the 2 cabs, the TM cab seemed to be more on the low mids. A bit muddy, of course changing the tone settings helped but the V30's gave it a clearer tone.(IMHO) I might swap the Elite 80's in the TM with maybe a mix of a V30 and a G12-65 or 2-65's. Much easier cab to lug around. Having different cabs with different speakers gives you more options.

How is the FX loop? Works great with my Axe-Fx in the loop or in 4 cable method.

How does it take to pedals? Just from the Videos on YouTube, seemed to take well.

Is there anything in particular that I should knopw about the amp in terms of features/ standout aspects?
Having the 3 mini switches on each channel and what each one does, gives you a TON of flexibility.

Look forward to hearing your review.

close to my heart Kage. This was my baby when I was partners with Bruce. I voiced and came up with the features. Killer bassman cleans and just solid gain amp with good mids. I love it!

Kage, have you thought about picking up a MOD50 or MOD100? I think you would be even happier in the long run with one of these, due to their flexibility and comparative build quality over the Renegade.

However, if you're sold on the Renegade, might I suggest that you wait and try the regular version side-by-side with the HG (high gain) version? You might decide the extra gain available in the HG version is more up your alley. Plus, it looks meaner in all black, and you could match it up better with many different cabs (from other manufacturers/brands) given that it's all black. FYI, the regular version has the black and tan colour scheme.

Just a few thoughts.

Happy holidays!

I notice that the HG versions were pulled from the website a few weeks ago. Don't know what's up with that.
