I done forgot what the numbers mean in that respect (higher hotter or lower hotter)...
:D

Thanks!

Resistance is not an accurate measure of how hot a pickup is...it can be an indicator but not a reliable one. Having played both of those pickups a lot, I would say they are very close in output with the edge going to the JB.

Yes, fatter bottom too.

I wanna change the Classic 57+ in my LEs Paul to a JB possibly... and through a Jazz in the neck while I am at it and get rid of the claissic 57 there as well

the jb is basically a much hotter pickup then the classic plus. Classic plus is much more vintage paf and basically a low output pickup by modern standards.

If you were talking about the '57 classic, I'd agree, but the '57 classic plus is hot.

classic and classic plus are the same exact pickup just a tiny bit extra winds, I have had all three pickups, say 8k for classic 9k classic plus, and 14k for a jb. Jb will drive an amp into od much sooner then a classic plus. Not saying I like them better or that they sound better, just that a jb is a hotter pickup by a nice amount.

I don't know about that figure for the Classic plus.

The Gibson Chart lists the Burstbucker 3 as slightly hotter than the Classic +, and to my ears that is true... All BB3's I've measured are around 8.1~8.3k So that would put the Classic plus around 8k?

I haven't compared them in the same guitar, but to my ears the JB is alot hotter sounding than the Classic '57 plus. If you are selling a '57 and '57+ and they are black, I have a friend that might be interested....

I think it's entirely possible that you're all right. Meaning that I think Gibson has probably made '57 classic plus pickups that ranged from 9-13.8k as said in that first link i posted, which is a big difference. I'm pretty familiar with regular '57 classics as they're stock in my 335 and brother's sg, as well as in a friend's lp. However the one '57 classic plus equipped lp I've compared with my 335 and jb-equipped jackson was HOT. Still probably not as hot as the JB but way hotter than the regular '57 classic (and they sound fairly different too) but I didn't physically check the resistance either. Doesn't make sense that they have such a big range of outputs for the same pickup but stranger things have happened with Gibson. I actually prefer the regular '57 classic over the '57 classic plus, BB3, Dirtyfingers and 500T but I do like the JB. The hot gibson ones sound a little too hairy for me whereas the JB is hot but still kind of makes sense to me.

I own both and no way are they close.  The 57 classic + sits in a box
I do too and they are close in my experience...so who's right? Perhaps there was some variance as mentioned elsewhere? I'm also using 80's JBs as my reference...I don't care for the new ones that I've tried.

What's the relevance of your 57 Classic + sitting in a box in regard to output? If that's all you care about, why not use an X2N or Invader? I hope it sits in a box because you don't like its overall tone/feel when used in your guitars.

if u have a classic plus that reads in the 13k range odds are that u actually have a 498t and just think its a 57classic. THey are never that high a reading.

While the world was unleashing the fooking fury on me yesterday for being an amp whore   I managed to sneek over to Sam Ash and get a set of Duncans to replace my Classic 57+ bridge and Classic 57 neck... I am in fact selling them and they are in fact black!

Classic 57 hater! :gethim:

Why don't you like anything? Why don't you like the nice pickups?

Just installed Moshaholic's '57 Classic and '57 Classic + in my friend's Les Paul Studio light. He had a SD '59 and SD Screamin Demon in the guitar before. Anyway, the '57 Classics sounded great, I loved the warm buttery tone they had. It made the LP sound more like his Epiphone Sheratone (which has the same pickups and I love), but with more push and authority. I was very impressed with the '57 classics again. If I see another set for sale, I may have to pick them up for my LP custom. :)

And I did measure the DC resistance of both pickups and the '57 Classic was 8k, and the Classic Plus was 8.2k.

I was playing my 1960 Classic Sam ash re-issue Les Paul tonight that used to have those pickups in it!

I really love it alot more with the JB and The Jazz... :D

That's great. It worked out well for everyone. I have a SD Jazz and Suhr Aldrich is my '73 LP custom. I really like the Jazz. My experiences with the JB have been hit or miss. Still I was really impressed with the '57 classics.

On another note, the SD'59 and SD screamin deamon which were in my friends LP studio Lite were put in another friends Epiphone LP, which had stock pickups. The '59 and Screamin Deamon were a huge upgrade in that guitar.
