I am looking for a cheap preamp to use for recording with my torpedo CAB. I have been using my mesa boogie mark iii blue stripe and while the tone is crushing, I want to try a preamp solution. I'm into 80s and 90s metal, mainly rhythm guitar parts. Something like a hot rodded marshall would do the trick. A friend of mine has an engl e530 which is really good but I d like to try sth different. I used tp have a triaxis, an Ada mp1 and a quad. The quad was the best sounding preamp IMO. I ve done my homework and the results have come down to
1) rocktron piranha - about 200 euros
2) rockmaster - same price
3) soldano sp - about 400 cant afford it right now
4) kittyhawk quattro - cant seem to find one
5) Marshall jmp - prices are all over the place
6) Hughes & Kettner Access - more expensive than the others
Pedals
1) bogner ecstasy blue / red
2) Bogner Uberschall -
Do you have any personal experience about the ones mentioned? Or maybe throw some ideas. Again, bedroom player here, not looking for sth expensive. It will be used just for recording using impulses and power sim through the torpedo CAB.

many pedal preamps now.

Check out two notes, fredamp, victory, garland, Kartakou, kingsley, effectrode, baroni labs, and more for pedal preamps.

Mooer mini preamps are great modeling solutions also.

What about the piranha preamp? Does it do the hot rodded marshall thing?

Ok so I m gonna narrow down my search...
Pedals...Diezel vh4 version 1 - locally for 200 euros, amtweaker metal pro - locally for 200 euros, bogner pedals - ranging from 120 to 180
Preamps. Heads- brunetti mille blue face - 250 cant test it in person
Rocktron piranha - same as the brunetti
Randall rd 1 head 180 euros

Again, interested in 80s 90s metal snd hard rock, rhythm guitar parts. Bedroom player - it will be used with the torpedo cab+ virtual cabs for recording. Thank you!

I tried a couple of the Mooer preamps. They sound great. Many different flavors too, and they each have 2 channels...clean and dirty. I tried the Friedman one, and the Blackmore one.

No, just the built in cab simulation. And my DAW which has a few different cabs. But I imagine the torpedo would be 100 times better.

Hmm that seems interesting indeed... Thx for the info!
