hiss on high gain from tourmater head

clean 1 and 2 are super quiet but that's not why I got this amp....

Channel 4 is noisy because it has so much gain. Not sure there is much you can do about it. Maybe try a noise gate, or maybe new tubes?

You might also try turning the presence and treble knobs down a bit, or switch the voicing from modern to classic. That does reduce the gain a bit though.

If the hiss is really pronounced, which it wasn't in my head, it might be a noisy 12AX7 tube....I had a bad V1 that only affected channels 3 and 4...Channel 4 is I think V3 and V4??....Len would know

I don't think it can be done- I don't think you can get that much gain in a tube amp without some noise.

The Tourmaster is a good isn't it? Part of me is wanting to do what Rod did and get the Rebel 30 2 X 12 combo because the Tourmaster is so heavy (stop laughing Rod). The combo is 100 pounds. But it has that sound doesn't it?

You might want to try Armageddon when it comes out. High gain amp with a built in ISP attenuator.

Len, if you can deal with the weight, the Tourmaster sounds a lot better than the Rebel 30...I really miss all 4 channels...I had mine dialed in so that all 4 were really good sounding.....The weight with just the head was really giving me issues though..I think that the Renegade is probably closer to the TM in terms of tone...Even with a oversize 2/12 cab, the Rebel 30 doesn't sound very big... small tubes, small sound

If I had any extra money (which I don't) the best thing to do would be to leave the Tourmaster at home for recording, practice, and rehearsal, and get a Rebel 30 1 X 12 for a grab and go. But I can't do that now.

I wish someone would STOCK the Rebel 30 2 X 12 so I could hear it, but no one does!

The Renegade is missing some features that I like. It only has two power settings, as opposed to some kind of power scaling. It doesn't have the silent record out, which is a nice feature. Also, the Rebel 30 combos have a combined XLR-1/4 inch line out jack, which I don't think the Renegade combos have.

Probably best to just save my pennies. I got a solo gig next week. I'm gonna try my Line 6 POD for that.

i've got to the point with my tourmaster that, i HONESTLY CAN'T find a BAD tone in it.

and it still has the stock tubes in it. my n ew tubes should be here soon though, and the quest returns.

I liked the tones of my Tourmaster best with JJ 12AX7's
