I have a chance to pick up a Hiwatt 4x12 for $400 - anyone have any experience w/ Fane speakers? I assume there are quality speakers since Hiwatt stuff is built pretty solid from what little I know.

I like them. they can play loud as HELL... i like their woody tone with a strong low end.

I like loud and I like low. :) Probably give it a go. Seems like a decent deal at $400.

The older Hiwatt's are the way to go but the newer ones are nothing like the older cabinets.

The older Hiwatt's are super rare and extremely hard to find. Hiwatt has had many buyouts over the years - I would not buy unless you can try before hand.

I had Hiwatt SE4123F. Well I don't know what to say. For $400 I would buy It again cause it is very pleasant to play. Top quality cab. But too much low end and thickness, not enough higher mids when you try to record it. Hard to fit in a rock mix. With bright sounding amps it might be awesome.

Other series of cabs like HG are nothing special.

This. Man, if it was an older version, it sure as shit wouldn't be going for $400...

Try before you buy. Man, if that was a 70s or 80s cabinet, I'd fly there now to buy it in person

Not if I got there first

I'd kill for an old vintage ported Hiwatt cabinet. Built like brick shithouses and sound insane

It was SE4123F w/ the original Fane speakers in it. Front loaded cab with 4 ports. Its definitely not one of the new cabs they currently offer.

Buy that now. Hell the speakers alone if original are worth way more than the asking price.

That's a Hylight late 70's early 80's. That can sell for quadruple. Buyer score/Seller moron

That looks clean too... mega deal

Tracked with a vintage Orange 412 that had Fanes, sounded nice.

Super stoked that you guys are stoked!

Honestly, I really had no idea what I was looking at. I was browsing Craig's for a 4x12 and the Hiwatt caught my eye because it was a ported front-loaded cab. The guy was selling the Mosfet 100 & cab for $700. I asked if he would separate cab from head. He said yes, for $500. I told him I had a budget of $400 and he agreed. I quickly looked at the Hiwatt site and saw their cabs had either Fane or Celestion speakers.

I got there, played the Mosfet through it & confirmed all the speakers were working. Popped one of the speakers out and confirmed it was a Fane and said, "I'll take it."

Just got home so I will have to wait until tomorrow to crank it up!

Here's some good pics of the cab and a speaker shot. Got one ouchy on the back of the cab, and a little separation of the tolex on one of the back corners. Overall pretty clean.
