Got my Variplex and finally had a chance to play with it, because I am "sick"

Plexi's are ungodly loud without the variac, but I dropped output down to 35, speaker out to hotplate set to load, lineout into my VHT 2/50/2 Ch. A and that is pure sex

Then I tried splitting the signal into my Eclipse into Ch. B of the VHT for a W/D

Cool man, those amps are tone machines! Sounds like you got several options for rig setups, very cool  !

I bet that sounds killer man!!

Im pretty sure Steve Stevens is using one on tour right now, so il get to hear it tomorow.. going to see Billy Idol at Brixton, London tomorrow night!

Yeah, stock these don't have too much gain on tap, but I hit with a clean boost and it has more than enough gain for me.

It's way too loud to run just off the Variac alone until I get my Iso cab, but for now re-amping sounds much better than I thought it would

He has a different circuit, master volume, more gain than stock, and it's 100W. He rotates between that and the Splawn Quickrod depending on the room, that's what I read, not that I'm a Stevens fanboi or anything.

Awesome!! Lets hope he uses the Variplex tomorrow then.. Iv liked the Dave Friedman stuff more than the Splawn stuff, so it'd be nice to hear Steve put the Friedman head thru its paces!!!

Maybe he'll use it during (male) Flesh for Fantasy!

:hys:

Congrats Wil, we definately have to get together soon. I am going on vacation. When I return we gots to hook up. How does the orange head case look ? David Friedman can add a Master volume and a gain switch. So I have read his master volume is great. This is going to be my next amp. :D

Hi Mark!

No doubt, the amp is ungodly loud though, even with the variac

Hmmm.. for you plexi owners without a MV, how do you guys usually end up setting up the amp? I just dimed all the controls

I still think you'll be sorry you sold your M4 and GP-3. ;)

They both blow me away every time I turn them on.

However, it could just be the rest of my stuff that sounds good.

  Maybe! I really didn't want to get rid of it when I was packing it up yesterday. But I can always buy one back in the future. I needed the cash to pay off the rest of the Variplex and something else I had coming in :D But I am really digging the Variplex right now

Wow had more time with it and :inlove:, I am loving Single Channel NMV amps!! Amazing how dynamics and guitar volume can greatly change the tone. If I sell this someone shoot me

yeah, Roy says you start losing touch sensitivity and guitar to amp interaction when you start adding fx loops and channel switching - based on my plexi compared to other amps I've owned/own, I believe him.

Thats the same reasoning he gave me. But I have no need for a FX loop if I am doing a W/D setup

But man, these are really touch sensitive! I have to change my playing style a bit just to get used to this amp, but it gives you so much control over your tone with just your guitar, and these amps clean up extremely well. I am not used to this at all! I usually just max tone/volume on my guitar and let the amp do the voicing.

Not really digging my Suhr through it though, but through my Strat in SSH(Noiseless SC/JB in Bridge) this thing has every tone imaginable. Since I can't play at extremely ear deafning volumes for more power tube distorition I hit it with the plank cranker or my OD-9 for that extra push.

Yeah, I like a bit of a boost into these types of amps - I actually find these amps easier to play, I like the notes jumping out at you!

Definitely easier to play once I got used to it. I really need to try it without the re-amp :)

I'll try to get some pictures up, and once I get my Iso cab maybe some clips if I improve my playing a bit

I was playing Wheel in the Sky for my gf and she was like "hey it actually sounds like music"

hmm should i buy one? Can you get a balls to the wall tone with it ? :)

steve stevens uses a jtm 45/100 not a variplex. both are very good though

Yeah Steve is using only the Blankenship now. I met up with him and did some minor adjustments and he's a very happy guy. The Splawn is just a back up now. His amp is a 100 watt custom 45 with a slight modification. Really its a plexi with a master and a extra gain stage. Yes he uses a variac with it set to around 100 volts. Dave

Hi Dave!

Welcome to the boards, is it possible to do something like that with the Variplex? The amp is ungodly loud without a MV and I am unable to use it in my house without reamping it into my poweramp.
