greg's a monster player and one of my closest friends. Greg and I have a new web site coming out hopefully in November. its gonna be killer

I'm looking forward to that

I remember hearing him for the first time on one of the GP flexi disks :D
I`m dating myself here, hehehe.

Amazing player!

I like how he uses such wide intervals but avoids making it sound like an Yngwie-sweep-a-thon.

Cool technique that guy has.

Same here. For some reason, I was thinking about those soundpage "flex-disks" today, and how it didn't even seem inconvenient to have to tear it out of a magazine, set it on a larger vinyl album, then put it on a turntable, move the stylus to the soundpage by hand, and then sit down and listen to a 3 minute recording, only to get up and do it again. Some cool recordings that could have potentially launched some of the careers of certain guitar players. I remember Steve Vai "attitude song", Yngwie "black star", lessons by Brad Gillis, etc.

Flexi disk!!! I remember about Racer X - Scarified  I wanted to quit playing!

Back to the subject... Greg rocks! :D But it's latest album is kinda weird...

Indeed he is a monster musician. I was fortunate enough to see him at Tone Merchants during Namm. The guy just tears it up. I wish I would have taken lessons wheh he was giving them at TM. Damn!

I just took a 1 hour webcam lesson with Greg Howe yesterday and it was absolutely awesome. He helped me out with my legato technique...he's a total genius. I recommend everyone try it out. He also does free trials, so you can meet him before you commit to paying.

Greg Rules and and despite his obvious talent on guitar he has some of the sickest timing IMHO.

I hate to say this but I agree with George that Ive never really dug Gregs tone but to each there own. It pretty much doesn't matter given how amazing he is lol :D

Very cool phrasing...great player. Looks like he copped his vibrato from Lynch.

I saw Greg play with Howe II back in a club in PA in the late 80's and he tied for having the best tone I ever saw with the fender dual showmans and a tube screamer. He was tied with Doug Aldrich (sp?) when I saw him in a club in NJ playing with Hurricane. Doug was using a rack of five marshall heads one of which had Hose stenciled on it (not sure if it was one of Marks or not). Doug also had a rack full of effects and the weird thing is I would say that Doug's tone was tied with Greg's (and very much alike), while coming from vastly different gear. Go figure...

Back during the Hurricane days, Doug was using a variety of modded Marshalls, most of which were modded by Frank Levi! But i know for a fact that he had a Jose Arredondo modded Marshall that he used during that time too, so who knows.. maybe the 'Hose' amp was the Jose modded Marshall but they mispelled 'Jose'? :D

That's funny that you mention that becuase out of all the tones he had, I dug the howe II tones the best. It actually reminded me of early VH at times....so I stand corrected on him always having a bad tone.

thats was my fav tones of Greggie'e as well back then..i saw him on that tour as well with those Modded Showmans and a Tube screamer...there was some serious Van Halen influences on that whole album! I do like the tone he gets on "Extraction" CD though for that smooth fusiony tone. it almost reminds me of Holdsworth.

Have you heard "Sound Proof"? I thought that album had the best tone that Greg Howe has ever gotten. The cover he did on "Tell Me Something Good" knocked me on my ass

That album is cool....the mix is terrible and his tones are pretty bad too.... But as usual he plays great on it.... :)
