Looking at my next amp choice. I also i just want to see where people land on these options here

I love the Cali plugin so if the amp is comparable then that would be nice. The Hermanson seems pretty freaking awesome as well but I think he quoted me $1200 plus the amp which is out of my price range.

I could be wrong but I dont think the Juno will get you into hot rodded Marshall territory. I believe it would be closer to maybe a Dual Rec with EL34's. I want a Juno one day and I absolutely adore my Orthos.

Personally I would skip the Friedman but that is just a personal taste. I've only played a couple but they were too polished for me. I'm in the minority that prefers Splawn.

Monomyth is killer. I've owned 2. I had mine posted for sell but I sold a few other things I had laying around so Im keeping it. Also the one issue I had with my amp is it didnt really do low gain well but that was operator error. I have a push pull pot on the volume and once you pull it I think it defeats a bright cap or something and then you can do crunch to all out chug.

Havent tried a Wizard everyone always seems to love them. I dont have that kind of cash.

Fortin EP... I dunno is the Killer Kali channel the same as the Fortin Cali? I dont know. Seems cool and IF you dont jive with it you can always sell them quickly.

Larry.. if you have the cash and the patience go for it.

Appreciate the thorough input.

The Juno I just added for fun, I wanted to give options but I see your point

I am a Friedman guy and actually like the smoothness they bring but I see why people can be turned awy from them. I never found the Butterslax itself to be very smooth though.

Yeah I am also unsure about the EP, seems like it could be too good to be true feature wise.

I am leaning towards Hermansson for my next amp personally. More than enough gain, sounds super tight. Plus Henric really seems like someone who would be great to do business with.

Monomyth is bad ass, one of the cheapest options and is attainable.

Only amps I've owned in your list are the Wizards. The MTL I didn't jive with. I love the MCII. Throw a boost out front and it's a metal machine; the most unique amp I've ever owned. I had a 2017 and now have a 2020 MCII and they kill. Punch and grind like no other. If you have the coin, I'd vote Wizard just for the experience.

While not on your list, the VHT 50CL is also an insanely good metal amp and takes off when slightly boosted. The MCII, Savage 120 and 50CL are my top 3 metal amps.

I'd like to check out the Juno at some point. The ARES was a metal beast.

Edit: Just wanted to add that the MCII is not gonna give you that thick saturated wall of sound type tone. It's a focused, tight, upper midrange grinding thing. You can get it fairly saturated with a good boost but it is still very open with very little compression. The MTL of course has the saturation knob and gets much thicker than the MCII but the mids are different. I just felt the MTL was missing certain upper mid frequencies and went back to the MCII. Just depends where you like your mids. ALl that said the new MTL MKII has the sweep knob which maybe allows you to dial in more upper mids? And you can order an MCII hybrid that has an added saturation knob.

Hoping Brad can get 2021 production back online for the CCV. I want one so bad but not at the sale prices they go for on the used market ?

I love the Juno for thrash's tones

Used prices are pretty great on them as well. Cali would be absolutely sick for thrash too. I am a modded Marshall guy for thrashy stuff though.

I am not really experienced with any of them, but the amp I have been in love with lately (and WAY cheaper) is the Rivera K-Tre. I got it and liked it, then just a few weeks ago I dropped a bunch of GE NOS tubes into it. And Holy hell, the thing turned into a monster. I just got my Framus and Engl and love them a lot - but 10 minutes later I plug back into the K-Tre.

Saying that I have to disclose that I am always slow and have to ease myself into getting into new pieces of gear I buy.

I will own a Monomyth at some point, I hear nothing but good things and awesome clips.

I also must say that most of what you are looking for isn't in my radar as far as price goes.

But then again - there is Splawn. They punch way above their weight class regarding tone for the money. Considering that I got my Promod and Nitro under a grand a pop.

I hope I was of some assistance, but I like I said am not a $4k+ amp kind of guy.

A lot of really cool feedback on this thread! I redid the poll to add Ceriatone and Splawn. Didn’t realize it would remove the old reponses....WHOOPS

I gotta say those Hermansson clips are the most impressive sounding clips I have heard in a long time. I wish I could play one in person. If I had the money I would go that route or get a Peters.

Having just got a Wizard MTL and it blowing my mind with tone, that would be my #1 suggestion. Tight, aggressive and in your face. Cleans are brilliant as well. Totally drained my amp GAS tank.

If you can't find one used for a good price or don't want to shell out the money to get a new one I'd recommend the Hermansson/Monomyth/Gower route. Those three I would love to play and all them boys seem like class acts, having had varying degrees of communication with all 3.

id have to consider a Henning after hearing clips

I thought the same thing after hearing clips. I really struggled to get enough saturation out of mine to make it playing friendly. I felt like I was wrestling the amp and it choked your playing. It has gain, but not saturation. It wasn’t fun to play at all and I ended up selling it. 10/10 would recommend a stock Marshall with a boost over a CB. It’s a great amp but for the price it was a hard pill to swallow.

Agreed. That clip sounds good, but I used to own a Cherry Bomb and although it sounded pretty good, the Wizard I had at the time smoked it as well as a Gower modded Marshall I had at the time. I also agree that it didn’t have a good feel at all. Hard to explain. The Wizard somehow felt a lot better, even though it was still the more unforgiving and honest amp

Of the choices listed I’d say it’s really between the Larry, Hermannson, Monomyth or Wizard. The other choices aren’t on the same level IMO. I have a 2016 Wizard MTL, had a ‘96 Wizard MC, and have a Monomyth. They’re the Marshall type amps that have stayed so far (plus the Cameron’s) of the countless others I’ve owned and tried. As Psychodave said, the Cameron’s are also great, but hard to find and pricy. I ordered a Larry PMM, so I’ll see how that turns out. Never tried a Hermansson, but the clips sound very promising to me

May not be as good as a Cameron or Wizard but I voted Splawn too. Considering you can get a used one in the $1,000 range it is a lot of amp for the money. You could then afford another amp off your list :D
