Ok so I read that most agree the tone via the line out on a hotplate is thin and not very good.

I'm just wondering, is this the case regardless if it's set to load or say -4 etc...?

Is there a way to get it modded so that the tone via the line out could be more accurate ala the line out from a boutique amp etc...?

Dont forget the tone controls work backwards on the Load setting. Not sure if that affects the Line out.

What are you running the Line out to? Ive never had any trouble with mine. Using the Load setting is there a need for the Line out?

To clarify, I like the hotplate tone up to -8 (connected to a speaker)

I've never had to use the line out on it, but I'm gonna di profile (Kemper) a friend's triaxis / 2:90 and just want to put my hotplate in the speaker chain in order to get a post power section tap. I'm basically avoiding having to buy a direct box that can handle a speaker load...I guess if I use it, I'll just have to eq it.

I've read Kemper and non Kemper users complain that the hotplate line out sucks (no tthat the thd hotplate itself sucks, just the line out sucks)

Just run the hotplate on load then. Its a line level signal. Try both for that matter. If one sucks you can always hit delete.

It's horrible
Friend of mine (who also owns one) told me it's not bad when you use some type of cab simulation

I don't have a hot plate, but tried the line out of another attenuator (one that is much more expensive than the hot plate) and it sucked. It was muddy sounding. Get a DI box. I settled on the Whirlwind Director+ and have been happy with it. Put the DI between your amp and the hot plate, with the hot plate set to Load.

Using the speaker cab as a load should be ideal, but the tone difference isn't huge between that and something like the hot plate acting as the load. The bigger tone improvement for me came from using a DI instead of the attenuator's line out.

I've also compared the DI to a slave out on an amp. The DI sounds better than that as well. Any time I'm trying to tap a line level signal off an amp's speaker output I'd use a DI.

thanks guys, guess I should invest in a direct box that can handle a speaker signal
